Dumbarton East, Dumbarton

Dumbarton East is an areas of the town of Dumbarton. It mainly consists of Victorian era sandstone buildings built by the Denny shipbuilding company to house its workers. Within this area is Knoxland Square, Dumbarton Castle, Pier Park, East End Park and the Strathclyde Homes Stadium - home of Dumbarton FC.
Knoxland Square sits on the site of Knoxland Manor which was demolished in order for the Denny houses to be built.
Dumbarton Castle known as Dumbarton Rock sits where the River Leven joins the River Clyde. The Castle has an illustrious history and many greats from Scottish and British history have been associated with it. These include Mary Queen of Scots, William Wallace and Queen Elizabeth II.
From the top of the Castle you have a beautiful view of the Clyde and Leven Grove Park. The Park itself was a gift to the town by the Denny's who owned the shipbuilding company(now a waste ground but soon to be turned into housing) which was about 100 yards away from the Castle.
Pier Park is beside Dumbarton Castle and also offers beautiful views of the Clyde. In the Summer you can often find Dumbarton's youths playing football there while the older generations enjoy the sun.You can also find the Accies doing the coffin run there in july pre-season
East End Park is between the Dumbarton East Area and Silverton.
