Dumah is a video game character in the Legacy of Kain series. He was voiced by Simon Templeman. In the early stages of production, his name was spelt 'Duma', and the vampires who were part of his clan were known as the 'Ronins'.

[edit] Sarafan life

Dumah was born over 500 years before the start of the first game. He became one of the leaders of the Sarafan Order. He was among those who stormed Janos Audron's keep and aided in his murder. After helping to kill Janos, Dumah was slain by a future version of his fellow Sarafan Raziel. After his death, Dumah was interred in the Sarafan's holy tomb.

[edit] Vampiric Unlife

Centuries later, Dumah was risen from the Sarafan crypt as Kain's third eldest Vampire son. He assisted his brethren and master in their conquest of Nosgoth, and upon the subjugation of the Humans was given clan territory to the north of the Lake of the Dead, near the ruins of the long-since destroyed Malek's Bastion. Dumah and his clan, the Dumahim, presided over a nearby fortress known as the Ruined City for centuries. When Kain ordered Raziel's execution, Dumah was one of the two lieutenants who, upon Kain's command, cast Raziel into the Abyss. As the centuries progressed, Dumah evolved/degenerated into a massive juggernaut with armor-like flesh and great strength. This trait was passed onto his spawn, and though they were not nearly as large as Dumah himself, they were incredibly durable and possessed great offensive power. Some time between Raziel's execution and resurrection as a wraith, a legion of human Vampire Hunters stormed the Ruined City and destroyed most of Dumah's clan. They somehow subdued Dumah, shackled him to his throne and impaled him with three massive pikes, though Dumah's body remained alive because a transfixed heart merely renders a Vampire immobilized and unconscious. This incomplete slaying trapped Dumah's soul in limbo.

When the wraith Raziel found Dumah and removed the pikes from his body, his wandering soul returned to his body and he awakened. Dumah thanked Raziel for unbinding him, but Raziel insulted the giant Vampire by stating that he had not forgotten that it was Dumah who cast him into the Abyss. Raziel informed Dumah that he was going to kill him, and Dumah warned his brother that he was even more powerful than Kain. After a heated battle that progressed throughout the Ruined City, Raziel lead Dumah into a furnace chamber, where Raziel operated the flames to set his brother ablaze, thus finally killing the mighty Vampire. Upon devouring Dumah's soul, Raziel obtained Dumah's ability to wind a band of constricting energy around his enemies and certain objects.

[edit] Trivia

  • Unlike every other ability gained from devouring the souls of his brethren, Raziel lacks Dumah's Constrict ability in future games. No explanation has been provided by the developers. Some assume that it was lost when the Reaver drained Raziel's strength to repair its physical form in Soul Reaver 2 (thought possibly as it was an energy based ability), but again, the other abilities remain unchanged.
  • If the player approaches Dumah's throne room in the Spectral Realm, a different introductory scene will take place wherein Raziel converses with Dumah's wandering soul. However, as Dumah is an exceptionally powerful Vampire, and not exactly "dead", Raziel is unable to devour his soul before destroying Dumah in the furnace.
  • Alongside Raziel, Vampire Raziel, and Kain, Dumah was made into an action figure with light-up eyes. As the action figure was also equipped with a removable mask, it was revealed that Dumah's stone like face in Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver was not part of his body.
