I'm getting tired of defending myself over and over again regarding the second copyvio listing of the GAP project. Coolcat has apparently been saying, usually behind my back, that this case was mishandled and that he was mistreated. Instead of explaining my actions over and over, I will just point people here. Please note this page only refers to the May 4 copyvio;
In his latest RFC CoolCat states that the material he used is public domain, but that the article was deleted anyway, noting this as evidence of his mistreatment.
My response as the administrator who evaluated this copyvio;
- There was no evidence presented that the material in question was PD when I processes the copyvio, only that it was previously published. If memory serves me- CoolCat claimed he was the original author and copyright owner but wished to remain anonymous. I have never taken anonymous statements as acceptable granting of permission for using copyrighted material (when I process copyvios). I didn't find any evidence that the text in question was PD.
- I was the second administrator to process this page as a copyright violation. CoolCat claimed he had re-written it after the first tagging, but when I evaluated the listing at WP:CP and examined the page there was still copied text (about a full paragraph, starting with the sentence noted in the talk page). I reverted to the oldest version that didn't contain copyright violations, per instructions at WP:CP. I also deleted the history pages that contained copyright violations, so that CoolCat wouldn't be able to easily restore the text and violate copyrights for a third time (on this article). See the second paragraph under the Social Impact section in this page, it was copied from [1], for example.
I've been questioned over and over by various administrators, who CoolCat has apparently complained to behind my back. In every case I have indicated my willingness to step aside if they wanted to evaluate the page differently. No administrator has. (David Gerard (I believe) selectively restored some of the non-copyvio text; however, it is not the duty of the administrator evaluating the copvio to do this.)
I am not familiar with the most recent copyvio tagging debacle (involving RickK and Silsor).
This case has left such a bad taste in my mouth that I no longer work on WP:CP. And I strongly resent CoolCat claiming that my actions are evidence of his mistreatment.
Prior to cleaning up his mess on the GAP project I dealt with his mess on Diagnosis: Murder, where another administrator noted;
... Cool Cat was dishonest from the beginning about this posting, denying at first that it was copyrighted, then claiming he had prior permission, then claiming he got permission after the fact (see discussion currently on my talk page). Furthermore, the text was copied from two websites, and the e-mail he speaks of at best covered one. If he likes the show that much, it shouldn't be a problem for him to use his own words to expand the new article. Postdlf 18:21, 27 Apr 2005 (UTC)
PS., regarding the second copyvio listing of the GAP project. I noted in the talk page what the copied text was. Coolcat never responded. I also offered to email the copyright violation text to Coolcat. I also explained that I don't accept anonymous granting of copyright licenses when evaluating copyvios. Coolcat hasn't responded to any of these points. So if Coolcat claims that he is being mistreated by me, he is lying. --Duk 2 July 2005 01:35 (UTC)
