The Dukovany Nuclear Power Station is a nuclear power plant (NPP) in Dukovany, a village in Moravia in the Czech Republic.
It was the first NPP in the Czech Republic and is situated 30 km from the city of Třebíč, near Dalešice waterworks, where the NPP receives its water supply. Construction of the NPP began in 1970 when Czechoslovakia and the Soviet Union ratified a contract for construction of two NPPs. From 1985 to 1987, four power units with pressurized water reactors were commissioned. All four are still in operation. In 1994, a tourist centre was opened at the site. In 2005, Unit 3 was upgraded to 456 MWe gross capacity. The same upgrade was made on Unit 1 and Unit 4 in 2007.
The Dukovany NPP has four reactors:
Unit | Type | Net capacity | Gross capacity | Initial criticality | Grid date |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | VVER 440/V213 | 427 MWe | 456 MWe | Feb 1985 | Aug 1985 |
