Duke of Lafões

The title Duke of Lafões was created under the decree of February 17, 1718 (confirmed for the charter of September 5, 1718) of king John V of Portugal in favour of the first D. Pedro Henrique de Bragança, son of the infant D. Miguel de Bragança, an illegitimate son of his father Peter II of Portugal and a French lady named Anne Armande Pastre de Verger.
The title was later passed on to his brother D. João Carlos de Bragança e Ligne de Sousa Tavares Mascarenhas da Silva, the most famous duke of this title. Luisa Casimira de Sousa Nassau e Ligne, Duquesa de Lafões was the first to use the Duchess of Lafões
