[edit] History

[edit] The Haunted House

Opened in 1992, when the ride was just a simple Haunted House, riders would queue outside the house in a themed grave area. Spooky music could be heard in the distance, with humorous grave stones surrounding the queue path. Once inside the house, riders would wait in the drawing room, infested with disturbing portraits, spirits and holograms. They would then board a coffin shaped car and the ride would begin.

The car would take them around the house (which in actual fact was a giant warehouse behind the house placed in Alton Towers'Gloomy Wood), presenting them with animatronic effects such as, lightning walls, demons that pop out from behind pillars, a revolving barrel situated inside a zombie's mouth, a giant ugly looking face that opens (revealing a bloody skull and an alien tongue) and a menacing spider.

[edit] Reconstruction/Duel

The ride was refurbished for the 2003 season to bring an interactive feel to it, since the effects in the original haunted house were starting to get shabby. The ride was originally designed by John Wardley (as the basic haunted house) and uses transit technology designed by MACK Rides.
