[edit] History 1995-2006

Dublin South FM was the first local community radio station to go on air in 1995 on 104.9FM and is the BCI-licensed community radio for South Dublin. It was formed to solve the difficulty local groups had in letting people know what was going on in the locality.

About 60 volunteers produce and broadcast 35 hours of quality programmes each week from the studios in Dundrum. Their aim is to use local access radio to enhance the quality of life for their community.

Lots of people are listening to local radio as the formula of local presenters and local interest programmes are seen as an ideal complement to national radio.

Dublin South FM's broadcast area covers approx 90,000 people and the service is not replicated by either RTÉ or the Dublin music stations.

Phantom 105.2 is now located near the former 104.9 frequency.

The news room is staffed by journalists consisting of Brendan Hickey, who is also the Station Manager, Head of News Rafionna DeBurca, Roving Reporter Shane O'Neill and many others who have given of their time and energy to make the news relevant and of interest to those in the community.

[edit] Advertising

Unlike most commercial stations Dublin South FM only plays up to 4 minutes of commercials per half hour on about 20% of its programmes. Approximately 15% of the stations output is advertisements.
