Dublin North is a constituency represented in Dáil Éireann, the lower house of the Irish parliament or Oireachtas, located in the northern area of County Dublin. In its current incarnation the constituency was created by the Electoral (Amendment) Act 1980 largely replacing the former North County Dublin constituency.
The constituency has an electorate of 72,908 and at present is served by 4 Teachtaí Dála (TDs). The method of election is the Single Transferable Vote.
The constituency is made up of the Balbriggan and Malahide electoral areas of Fingal County Council and the north & west Swords Wards (Brackenstown Ward & Seatown Ward). Settlements in this constituency also include Lusk, Rush, Donabate, Skerries and Portmarnock (the latter pending legislation).
The Minister of the Environment has (October 24 2007) recommended the adoption without amendment of the recommendations of the current Constituency Commission, which will see Dublin North lose around 9,000 voters (Portmarnock and Balgriffin) to Dublin North East and lose south Swords (Rivervalley Ward) to the Dublin West constituency but the constituency is scheduled to retain its four seats with growth in new housing throughout the constituency, especially in the Balbriggan area.
