Low resolution?

This image is a full sized DOS screen capture. Because Dual Module Player was a text mode program, a smaller image is likely to adversely affect the text display to the point that its educational value is greatly diminished. Also, this static image does not expose any of the music playing algorithms that the software derived its value from.

Purpose of use

This image is intended to illustrate the look-and-feel of a highly popular DOS music module player from the early 1990s. As such text mode programs are now rarely (if ever) produced or used, this image provides significant educational value for readers who may not have had the chance to interact with such programs in their heyday.

Replaceable?

As Dual Module Player was one of the most commonly-used module players in its time, a screenshot of another program will be significantly less representative of the everyday experience of users from that time period.

Other information Dual Module Player was released under a careware license in which the author granted free distribution rights: "DMP is careware so you can freely copy it to your friends and distribute it to BBSes etc." (from the accompanying DMP.DOC file) In addition, the author has apparently ceased all active development work on this program since 1995.
