[edit] POV-Ray SVGs

Hi, thanks for your work on Image:POV-Ray-Dodecahedron.svg. There seems to be a few other similar renderings that could use conversion to SVG:

Also, please consider uploading freely licensed images to Wikimedia Commons, that way they can be shared by all of the Wikimedia projects. Thanks again. --ChrisRuvolo (t) 03:05, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

It's on my to-do list! --Dave the Rave (DTR) 10:21, 13 May 2007 (UTC)
I would be happy to move the images to the Commons, but I have no idea how to. Any advice/help would be appreciated. --Dave the Rave (DTR) 20:53, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
Great stuff, thanks for this. To upload to commons, create a login at http://commons.wikimedia.org/ , and upload the files there in the same way you did here. All of the WikiMedia projects pull image files from there. Then the images on the English wiki can be marked {{subst:ncd}} if the commons ones have the same filename. If they have different filenames, use {{subst:ncd|Image:Filename.ext}}. --ChrisRuvolo (t) 20:22, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
Thank you kindly for the Barnstar. You did all the work of creating the content, so you deserve the kudos here. Cheers! --ChrisRuvolo (t) 17:55, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

I don't mind at all! In fact, I'm delighted to see that you fixed it. Thanks! --Ysangkok 09:33, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Need help with SVG

Hi, saw your name on the volunteer list at graphics lab, thats why I am asking. Hope its not too much of a botheration. I am practically a noob with vector graphics. I created Image:NGSCB.svg with Inkscape. Now, I want to add a shadow around the blocks. How can I go about doing that? --soum talk 17:11, 7 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks a lot. Yeah, the transparency is intentional. But it is causing problems when the rectangle representing the shadow is sent behind. May be I should convert them to paths and use their difference as the shadow. Thanks, again. --soum talk 07:48, 8 July 2007 (UTC)
Thanks. Will try that. :) See you around. --soum talk 15:48, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Zhou Tong image

I am the author of the Zhou Tong article and would like to thank you for some of the work you have done to improving the page's lead image. I have recently fiddled with the pic on the old windows paint program and drew in a face that looks pretty good. Please see my comments here. Thanks. --Ghostexorcist 23:52, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

The svg seems to be coming along nicely. I saw that you said you couldn't see the last image that I posted. Here is a side-by-side comparison of that image and the newest svg. I have connected the side burn to the beard, directed his eyes at the viewer, and softened his expression a little. Tell me what you think. Keep up the good work! --Ghostexorcist 21:21, 11 August 2007 (UTC)
I installed inkscape on my computer. How would you import the Zhou Tong image into the program? --Ghostexorcist 10:22, 12 August 2007 (UTC)
Thanks. That worked. Now I have to figure out how to use the damn thing. I may have to read a tutorial or two before I get the hang of it. I’m pretty good with the old windows paint program. I drew this for my nephew a few years ago. It’s not my best work, but it shows what you can do with lots of boredom and a strong mouse hand. (The original image is actually a lot larger, but I had to scale it down with irfanview to put it in my Myspace pics.) I just hope I can become as proficient with inkscape. --Ghostexorcist 10:49, 12 August 2007 (UTC)

I recently made some changes to the face on Image:Zhou Tong GR.svg, but it is not rendering. The changes are only visible when you click on it. This is similar to when the image was first created. I hope that something can be done to fix the problem. --Ghostexorcist 00:01, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the help. I didn't realize the blur would muck up the picture. The blur only looks good when the picture is enlarged. Crisp lines are easier to see when it is actual size. I won't attempt to switch it to png format.
The reason I edited the face is because another user recently made some changes of their own. They moved the mustache down in order to "give him a cheek", but it looked funny. No one's mustache is the equivalent of an inch below their nose and their mouth is not where their bottom lip should be.
I hope the rationale I made for the mantis photo will appease hardcore fair use people. --Ghostexorcist 09:51, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Question

Could you please take a look at the question I posted on the graphic lab's talk page? Thanks. --Ghostexorcist 21:05, 19 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks

So much for your svg of the prince's palace at monacco - out of interest what package do you use? --Mcginnly | Natter 14:38, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

I wouldn't worry too much about the little lines on the palace - they were supposed to represent 'banking' but we can live without it. Did anyone take a look at Wikipedia:Graphic_Lab/Images_to_improve/Archive#Scottish_Parliament_building? --Mcginnly | Natter 21:27, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Graphics Lab Announcement

[edit] Re:GL Comments

Hi DTR,

  • yeah, i've been trying to make the tables line up, however when I do a table within a table (which make the headers automatically line up), i've been getting issues with borders, so I just created 2 different ones with the same widths, however through different browsers/os's/screen res's there are not always going to be lined up. I'll have another go at it today, but if you want to have a go, please be my guest.
  • About the header, good idea, i'll get to work on that :-)
  • And finally the announcement (you'll laugh) was just something I spent 1 min on and then sent to everyone in Category:Wikigraphist ;-)

> Rugby471 talk 06:31, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

Go ahead in HTMl, i can always convert it to wikicode afterwards if needed, but don't save the edit just yet, as I will probabaly need to change the template code. Just send the code for the table to me on my talk page.

As you may have guessed I'm addicted to -moz-border-radius, sorry about that.

Aren't we all ... :-) > Rugby471 talk 08:24, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

Brilliant idea, looking back now mine was a bit ugly :-), i've changed the table and template (crediting you ofcourse ;-) ) Thanks for your help > Rugby471 talk 10:54, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

Yep all done now :-) If NoEditSection is need on any page, it needs to be specified on that page, it isn't in the template anymore (pages that didn't want noeditsection were having troubles) > Rugby471 talk 17:36, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

Not really, I think you have included everything there > Rugby471 talk 18:28, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Help?:)

(See Image:fdsfsd.jpg.) Hello I am working on a ethnic wiki and I am writing on race and human body so I wonder if you can draw them separately every each size you see on the picture I posted, very appreciate it and thanks in advance. Nick10000 03:05, 23 September 2007 (UTC)

I'm a bit busy at the moment, so I will have to decline for the moment, sorry about that. Others who might be able to help you include Category:Wikigraphist and Category:Wikipedians who convert raster images to scalable vector graphics.

[edit] Graphics Lab Announcement

[edit] Attention All Wikigraphists!

As you may or may have not noticed, the Graphics Lab pages have gone under a massive cleanup by User:DTR, User:Rugby471 and various others (sorry if I missed you out). Some of the things that have happened are.

  • All pages in the Graphics Lab have had, where sensible, templates, substituting elements. For example, the main Lab page was a large chunk of around 100 lines of pure code. It was not very easy to edit the main page, so the various sections of it (eg links, welcome) have been separated. Therefore the main page is now only around 20 lines of user friendly text. If you wish to edit the main page, you must look on the main page for the correct template to edit. (Fore example if I wanted to edit the links section, I would go to Wikipedia:Graphic Lab/links and edit the text there). This has been done to all of the pages, in an attempt to make them more user-friendly.

  • As you were notified of early, the Wikigraphist Abilities page has been set up and has been beginning to get populated. If you haven't already setup your own entry, you are advised to go and do so now.

  • Due to a comment from User:DTR. A template for Graphics Lab announcements has been created. It is at Wikipedia:Graphic Lab/announcement. If you ever need to issue a message to Wikigraphists, please use this template in the form

{{Wikipedia:Graphic Lab/announcement|message ~~~~}}

Where message is the announcement you wish to issue.

As always, if you experience any issues with the new changes, or are just a bit confused, please don't hesitate to contact me or DTR on our talk pages.

[edit] GL

Hmm when I tried that, it didn't seem to work. You can go on and implement that. (I've had enough of templates for today) Remember you'll need to change Wikipedia:Graphic_Lab/Images_to_improve Template:Request_Title Wikipedia:Graphic_Lab/Images_to_improve/top. However i just tweaked the template in your sandbox to fit with the previous template. > Rugby471 talk 17:15, 29 September 2007 (UTC)

It works !!! Wooo hooh !! I've updated everything, don't worry. clin d'oeil Thanks for your help. > Rugby471 talk 18:51, 29 September 2007 (UTC)

Also, maybe the next announcement should be a template so it can be easily updated? Or maybe we could have something like {{Signpost-subscription}} for Graphics news (e.g. new release of Inkscape)?

Sorry I don't understand what you mean by 'easily updated' ? > Rugby471 talk 06:21, 30 September 2007 (UTC)

Oh I see, next time we have to do one, I'll look into that it sounds a good idea ! > Rugby471 talk 10:26, 30 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] About Thai emblem

Hello, DTR. I've found Garuda image in uncolored version here. Happily, It is high resolution image (2107 × 2158 px). I think you may use it as guide for SVGfication of emblem of Thailand.

Note that Garuda images (both colored and uncolored) at Thai Wikipedia are now in public domain, since they were taken from official documents. Also, they were tagged as national insignia.

[edit] SVG question

Can you answer a SVG question for an Inkscape newbie? I uploaded Image:Olentangyrivermap.svg and there is a bit of curved text that is not showing up when it's rendered in Wikipedia - "Little Scioto" along the stream above Olentangy - It shows up in Inkscape just fine, is there something I need to do in Inkscape to get it to render properly? Kmusser 19:50, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

Thanks, that did the trick. Kmusser 13:09, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
