Drvenik veliki (sometimes called Drvenik veli, Zirona Grande in Italian) is an island in Croatian part of Adriatic Sea. It is situated in middle-Dalmatian archipelago, northwest of Šolta, 1.8 km from the mainland.[1] It's area is 12.07 km², and it has population of 168 (as of 2001).[2] The highest peak is 178 metres high.[2] The biggest settlement on the island is Drvenik (town). The island was first inhabited in 15. century.[3] Croatian monuments from 13. century, the island is mentioned as "Gerona" or "Giruan".[3] Main industries are agriculture, fishing and tourism.[3][4] Coast of the island is constituted of many sand and pebble beaches.[4]
