[edit] A bit about me
My real name is Gottfried Helms; my profession social work/assistant (Diploma is BA-equivalent); member of University of Kassel, department for "social work", giving introductory lectures in statistics. An earlier background is a study of "Informatik" (computer-sciences) (1972-1978). My diploma in "Social work" I got 1984 with a small field-study on "computer-addiction", evaluated with a journalistic approach. After that I earned my money as assistant in empirical research in gerontology in that departement. After an intense time developing an electronical documentation (network-)system for geriatric rehabilitation hospitals with that projects and maintainig it for a couple of years I decided to devote more of my life to spiritual subjects like christianism and buddhism and since then I'm teaching and doing consultatory statistics projects in and out of the university only on half-term basis. My main contributions here in wikipedia are mostly in mathematical subjects concerning number theory (because number theory was/is a life-long hobby of mine) but also in some statistical subjects (like factor analysis and regression) and generally in linear algebra. |

Some other privacies: I'm a 1952-born, living with wife and doughter in a small flat with a nice balcony and garden, being happy with the nice community of neighbours in this house. Since my youth I was involved in the german peace movement (DFG/VK) and later in socialism-orientated students commitees. From time to time between 1973 and 1984 I was traveling in Kenya (and wish, once to meet some friends from that time...) In the eighties, about the time, when I also received my diploma, I resigned from the students commitees and conventional political involvement to find some more deeper insight in the forces and reasons of our social and individual activities and desires. In the mid of the 90'th I got in contact with a lot of spiritual threads, like Lao-Tse, Osho, Odier, Krishnamurti, Hakuin and the Buddha; also I started to seriously review my cultural background as a protestantic christ, rereading the bible and documents about the ancient christian community and involving in the "interreligious dialog" in Kassel after the 9/11. In 2002-2003 I engaged in Kassel's parents-council for pupils of free schools. In 2003 and 2006 (with my family) I visited the buddhist monastery Plum-village of the famous vietnamese monk Thich Nhat Hanh. Currently I'm studying most intensely Thich Nhat Hanh's way of a social engaged Zen - Buddhism (see also my short biography about Venerable Thich Nhat Hanh). In Nov 2005 an internet-discussion occured after a request for some nice T-shirt-bonmots to be presented at a statistical conference. That was really fun, and immediately I opened my virtual T-Shirt-Shop. One of the most fashionable creations made of the smoothest, but durable bitmaps, coloured in deep black from pure rbg(0,0,0), stitched with the finest vectorial thread (imported from Redmond, USA) can be seen just righthand... → Gotti |
