It is very likely that this description of the area in 1907 and in earlier periods, is no longer true. Evidence for this is:

  • 20th century farming practices resulted in the draining of many wetland areas in Scotland. A look at the 1:25K OS map shows drainage ditches 55°37′15″N, 4°10′4″W
  • If it were one of the minority of remaining mosses in any kind of natural state, it would have at least SSSI status.
