Drop (song)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Drop" is a song by Los Angeles alternative hip hop group The Pharcyde, released in 1996 as the second single on the group's second album, Labcabincalifornia. The song was produced by J Dilla (known then as Jay Dee), and features three verses from Bootie Brown, Slimkid3 and Imani.
Spike Jonze directed the video for Drop using footage of the group performing the song backwards, replayed backwards, giving it a surreal quality. The beats sampled in the song further emphasize the video's backwards theme.
The The Beastie Boys also make a short cameo, appearing because their vocals are sampled from "The New Style" for the titular chorus.
The Ying Yang Twins also reference the song in their single, 'Drop', which appears on the 2008 album, The Ying to the Yang.
