Dronfield railway station serves the town of Dronfield in Derbyshire (population 25,000), south of Sheffield, on the Midland Main Line between Chesterfield and Sheffield, opened in 1870 by the Midland Railway.

It is on the long 1 in 100 climb to Bradway Tunnel on what is known to railwaymen as the "New Road" diverting from the "Old Road" built by the North Midland Railway which bypassed Sheffield. The station was closed in 1967, and its buildings demolished, but later re-opened as an unstaffed station in 1981.

The station is managed by Northern Rail, however, no Northern services currently stop there. A residents' pressure group, Dronfield Station Action Group, is campaigning for rail services to the town to be improved. Its president is local MP Natascha Engel.

From December 2008 Northern Rail will run a new hourly Express Service from Leeds to Nottingham calling at Wakefield Kirkgate, Barnsley, Meadowhall, Sheffield, Dronfield, Chesterfield, Alfreton and Langley Mill. Some of these services will call at Dronfield.[1]. Class 158 units have been seen route learning between Sheffield and Nottingham in preparation for this service.[2].

East Midlands Trains Mainline services from Leeds, Sheffield and London run through at high speed, but do not stop. Interchange with Mainline services can be made at Sheffield and Chesterfield.
