Droid is a font family created by Ascender Corporation for use by the Open Handset Alliance platform, Android. The font families, known simply as "Droid," are Droid Sans, Droid Serif, and Droid Sans Mono.

Droid is a TrueType font family intended for use on the small screens of mobile handsets. [1]
Variants of Droid are available to support complex character sets such as CJK in the small memory footprint available on mobile handsets.[2]

The fonts were designed by Steve Matteson of Ascender Corporation. The name is derived from the Open Handset Alliance platform name Android.
