  • Drilling and threading - Unhelpful structure and lack of info, particularly on threading. --Smack (talk) 04:37, 15 March 2006 (UTC)
    • The introduction needs to say a lot more. At least one term (swarf) needs to be defined, and there are a few very important, general facts that belong in the intro.
    • The division of the entire article into two sections on wood and metal, respectively, is preposterous.
    • Drilling redirects here. It probably shouldn't. I see a potential for two separate articles: one on drilling and one on threading or tapping.

  • Should be called Drilling and tapping. A hole is tapped but a rod is threaded. However there is no mention of the tapping process (the application of the thread) here. Not very usefull....

Since there is nothing on threading or tapping I moved it to drilling. RJFJR 21:47, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Rename?

The term drilling has many meanings, including:

  • verb tense: boring a hole, in many contexts
  • verb tense: training, such as military drilling
  • noun: a 3-barrel combination gun

I think this article should be moved to something like "drilling (machining)" or "drilling (tool operation)" and the name "drilling" used for a disambiguation page, pointing to appropriate articles. scot 15:43, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

  • Hmm... Bear in mind that those should really be covered by Wiktionary. I'll put in a wiktionary toplink for now. --Firien need help? 10:33, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:National Jet human hair drilled.jpg

Image:National Jet human hair drilled.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
