Nobita's Adventure: Drifts in the Universe is the second Doraemon movie released after Fujiko Fujio's departure. This is the third movie solely produced by Fujiko Production following Nobita's Parallel visit to the West (1988) and Nobita's Great Adventure to the Southern Ocean. This movie commemorates the 20th anniversary of Doraemon Movie.
This has a very similar storyline to the classic Star Wars movies (episodes. 4,5,6) with certain characters resembling Star Wars ones. For example, the main character (the boy who is looking for a new place to live) is based on Luke Skywalker, the fairy based on Leia, the big brown thing based on Chewbacca, and the machine that squeaks and talks weird a hybrid mix between C-3PO and R2D2. The storyline is loosely based on it too, with the last 10 minutes on the 'redemption' of the boy's father (obviously based on Darth Vader) when he shoots the cloaked person (Based on Palpatine) and kills him. However, there is the usual 'happy' ending, when Doraemon, Nobita and company get back to Japan.[citation needed]
