[edit] Pratt/Bosendorfer

Hi Drhoehl. I responded on Bosendorfer's talk page, but there is some kind of error and that page won't show up now, and which may clear up by the time you read this, but just in case, here is the diff of my response. I originally added that paragraph of a few particular users by searching the articles that actually linked to the Bosendorfer article, and Pratt's did not. But you have an album notes reference which is an absolutely perfect reference (see Template:Cite album-notes), and you're right, better than most. I have reverted back to your addition and when you have time, if you could fill out that template and add as a reference to the article that would be wonderful. And I would definately mention and link the Bosendorder in Pratt's article as well. If you need any assistance, please don't hesitate to contact me on my talk page. Thank you so much for clearing that up and your contributions are appreciated. ♫ Cricket02 (talk) 04:12, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for your reply. I've listened to some samples of this recording at Amazon and I must say I am impressed. I would like to help improve his article, although my time is quite limited these days as well. Research is the most time-consuming so if you have some information to add, I have the wiki editing knowledge, and maybe between the two of us we can get it up to some higher quality some day soon. I will add it to my watchlist. ♫ Cricket02 (talk) 05:10, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Jacques Abram and Arthur Benjamin

Never any need to apologise for talking, Drhoehl. If only there was more talk and less negative action in the world. There are various online sources for the Benjamin premieres by Abram, such as here and here. Cheers. -- JackofOz (talk) 03:36, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] List of Classical Pianists

Thanks for fixing my Warren Jones link. I should have checked before adding it. Nice work on this list, it must be tough to keep it in order.Wrightjack —Preceding comment was added at 20:19, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Non-opera classical singer cats

Thanks for your response. I'm not sure I can point you to any substantial discussions about non-operatic cats. Most of it has been two-way stuff on talk pages just like this. I would guess there are about a dozen or two articles on classical singers who never sang opera, either people who were too avant garde for anything but art song, or Edwardian English singers who disdained the stage as morally hazardous (these people are by and large in the top vocal categories like Category:sopranos). Almost every lieder singer also did opera, so ideally lieder categories should be put on them.

At some point you may come across WP:MUSCAT. This classification system was developed by the Biography (musicians) Project number crunchers to handle the large numbers of similar articles found in popular music. I'm opposed to its use for classical singers. They recommend what they call '3rd order' (i.e. triple attribute) categories, e.g. Albanian lieder bass-baritones, which for us can result in almost as many categories as there are articles. I prefer the '2nd order' cats we are using for opera singers (e.g. 'Operatic sopranos' and 'German opera singers'.

Hope this helps! Best.--Kleinzach (talk) 23:34, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] List of classical pianists – consider Preview button

May I suggest you use the "Show preview" button when editing the List of classical pianists in order to reduce the number of changes in the page history and the number of entries in many people's Watchlists. I've left you a response on your talk page. Drhoehl (talk) 20:53, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

Thanks. You can make a redirect on the other spelling - then there's no problem. (Do join us in the imbroglio!) --Kleinzach (talk) 00:18, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Amy Evans?

I see that you redlinked her. Are you planning to write an article about her? I saw something about her here: http://www.pefagan.com/music/fghp/aedisco.htm She's also mentioned in two shows here: http://library.kent.ac.uk/library/special/icons/playbills/playdat2.htm See also http://pinafore.www3.50megs.com/a-evans.html and http://aboutcards.blogspot.com/2008/04/unpopular-amy-evans-actress-postcard.html Best regards, -- Ssilvers (talk) 23:16, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

In the US, at least, the photo is public domain. I have no doubt that it can be used on Wikipedia. Still, many U.K. webmasters object to copying on Wikipedia without asking, and even though they have no legal right to prevent us, some wikipedians prefer to ask for permission. I'll leave it up to you. If you decide to do an article on Evans, please let me know, and I'll take a look. If you decide NOT to do and article, please let me know, and I'll de-redlink the name. All the best, -- Ssilvers (talk) 05:02, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

Looks good! Best regards, -- Ssilvers (talk) 01:40, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

You wrote that the book about Lytton suggests that Evans had been in A Waltz Dream in 1908, well before Fallen Fairies. I can't prove that this is wrong, but it is absolutely certain that she was in A Waltz Dream in 1911. There are a million photos with her and Lily Elsie from the 1911 production, and Play Pictorial lists her in the 1911 cast but not the 1908 cast. I think the book about Lytton just wrongly *assumed* that she had been in the original production.
Then you wrote, "Second, what I've seen indicates that the understudy was not Evans but someone whose name eludes me at the moment, and it does strike me as implausible that Evans would have joined the production as an understudy less than a week before she took over the role." I have seen at least two sources that say she was the understudy: [1]; and [2]. But I think you are right, because a letter from Gilbert refers to a Miss Venning. I'll make the change. Best regards, -- Ssilvers (talk) 03:05, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

Can you fill out the "recordings" section a bit more? It would be good to say, for each recording, what the accompaniment was (piano? orchestra?) and who was the conductor. Best regards, -- Ssilvers (talk) 03:24, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

You wrote, "do you think it would enhance the article if I were to take a photo of one of the test pressings?" Sure! When you upload the photo, you need to license it under GFDL or release it to the public domain. Noted, re: the record label names. I will trust you on those, as you are far more knowledgeable about it than me. I suggest that you add info to the appropriate Edison articles to mention the English company and add a clarification, if necessary, to the Pathe article. Best regards, -- Ssilvers (talk) 23:05, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] 5/11 DYK

Updated DYK query On 11 May 2008, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Amy Evans, which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

[edit] Kathryn Toyama

Well hello Drhoehl! So nice to hear from you. I think I put her on that list for lack of a better place. Like you said, she is classically trained, but now that you mention it, I don't think there is history of a significant career in classical music, no. Her MySpace page says Long after leaving the pressures of classical piano competition, but according to her bio on her website she left competition at age 16. Thanks for catching that, and please feel free to move her to a more appropriate list. Blessings. ♫ Cricket02 (talk) 04:30, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

D'oh! I forgot about that list. Thanks again. ♫ Cricket02 (talk) 04:58, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
