No major objection to your post (we're all entitled to our own opinions), but for clarification, I explicitly stated that I want to be involved in WP:AN (where admin rights are needed to close out backlogs), and not FAC (where admin rights are not needed). Additionally, where is the time requirement between nominations? Had I known there was a time policy I certainly wouldn't have bothered...or am I completely misreading this and this is your personal opinion? If so, what is your logic on time between applications? Again, strictly questions about your comments for my personal edification, not questioning your opinion. — BQZip01 — talk 03:41, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

[joke]Oppose because I am an Aggie!!?!? That is WAY out of line for a superior officer to...hmm...never mind...I see your point there (us Aggies are sometimes a little...oh what is the word for it...oh yes...slow). I must admit, I am personally of the belief that "Aggie jokes" don't exist; they are all based on true stories. [random agression for humorous effect] Perhaps I should propose removing you for undue influence by virtue of rank!!![/random agression for humorous effect]...sir? Is that a court-martial offense or merely an Article 15 incident? [/joke] (I took some serious time in writing this in order to not appear insubordinate, but humorous. It was strictly intended as such)
On a lighter.more personal note, where do you serve, sir? — BQZip01 — talk 22:09, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
When you stated that I didn't have a lot of admin-related tasks, I beg to differ. I have been involved in both WP:SSP and others especially in the past few weeks. Just an FYI. — BQZip01 — talk 04:23, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

I'm going to try again

Hi Dreamafter,

I haven't forgotten your kind offer to nominate me at RFA (gentle reminder that you said it in print and can't get out of it). I've kind of re-thought my reasons for not trying another RFA; rather than regugitate them here, I'll link to a conversation with MastCell earlier this evening. Are you interested in co-nominating with MastCell and Pedro? If so, I believe MastCell will be setting the page up in the next few days, and I'd be honored if you added a few words. If you're no longer interested, then... ZOMG I just canvassed! It's doomed to failure before it started...

Seriously, though, thanks for the kind words in December. --barneca (talk) 04:48, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

Saw your comment on MastCell's talk page. You might be waiting a while on that page going active; I'm hoping/planning on never needing Barneca 3. I'm hoping Barneca 2 is all we'll need. :) --barneca (talk) 15:05, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

Bot

Hi. I have created around 14,000 articles on wikipedia, higher than anybody, and am currently adding Frebnch communes at bot speed around 6 a minute and have requested that my new articles are automatically filtered but noone seems to be concerned. I have addressed this to several people but no one has taken it seriously when I said I was concerned about clogging up new pages even when I am adding general content. I refused adminship long ago but surely I am respected enough to be regarded as admin level in editing. I always add valuable content and most of my articles are referenced except such stubs. Isn't it time somebody made a decision to help new page patrollers by helping them. I;ve contributed tens times more than many adminstrators on wikipedia (107,000 edits) who automatically have their page unmarked -shouldn't mine be the same on a permanent basis? I consistenly add new content to wikipedia which is generally referenced and useful content. Deforestation in Brazil is what I am capable of. It would help patollers a lot. Any idea if you can help me receive permanent clearance? ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 23:00, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

The thing is I'd rather have my edits on one account. Its not that important -more muiportant is getting these articles at least blue linked when they have been on many other smaller wikipedias for years and we are lagging behind in this area, Could you help me set up a User:BaldBot and get me clearance? ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 11:00, 30 January 2008 (UTC).

Thanks. Any idea how I log into this account? ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 13:54, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the headsup. The edit looked of vandalism, as it only said "CLEAR" in the edit description. Again, thanks. ~QuasiAbstract (talk/contrib) 14:16, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

I understand, though it did look clearly (to me) as vandalism. I'll do a bit of research first, next time. ~QuasiAbstract (talk/contrib) 14:20, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

Order of Saint Charles

Dear Dreamafter,

You seem to have written most of the article on the "Order of Saint Charles" of Monaco. I believe that it is full of mistakes.

  • The grand Officer does not wear two "awards". These are not awards in their own right. They are the star and the badge, or cross, of the order.
  • The chest riband is not the "traditional" way to wear an order. It is nowadays common, in the past necklets, ribbons tied around he neck and collars were used.
  • The crosses and stars of the order are not "tainted silver"! The are made of silver or gilded silver.
  • The badge of an order is not the same as a medal. A medal is round or oval and it is usually the lowest grade in an order. The knights wear a cross or badge.

In America everything is called "medal", but phaleristic literature distinghuises between stars, badges (the Legion d'Honneur has a jewel that is not a cros, it is therefore called a badge) and crosses.

Faithfully yours,

Robert Prummel

BAG

Hi. Why did you speedily approve BaldBot (talk · contribs), even though you were the coder of it? Seems fishy to me - I tell a lie, it seems totally unacceptable to me as a conflict of interest. Anyway, my message to you is to please not do it again, and try to avoid unilaterally deciding BRFAs - wait for another member to provide input. This whole "double checking" procedure is something I've advocated since before the big BAG reform, and it becomes far more necessary now that there is open access to the group. I will be making a post to WT:BAG and WT:BRFA now to remind all of the BAG members of the need for care, and will again be advocating reversal of the current system back to a more stringent system where members are made more aware of what is expected. Thanks, Martinp23 20:18, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

I've revoked the bot approval by way of blocking the bot. Martinp23 20:21, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
He doesn't need a bot flag nor approval if it's manually assisted. More details are needed, ideally on the BRFA page. Martinp23 20:41, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
As far as I've seen in the past, we don't give bot flags to humans. I may be wrong. My take on it is that humans are far more prone to mess up than bots are. Clearly, more input is needed. Martinp23 20:45, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

Quick note to more personally say sorry for misunderstanding and jumping to an incorrect conclusion. Martinp23 20:49, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

I've started a thread discussing some of the issue raised by the speedy approval of this bot - Wikipedia talk:Bots/Approvals group#Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/BaldBot. WjBscribe 11:36, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

BAG Changes

Hello. You may remember, some time ago, joining the BAG under the trial "open membership" system. Based on a lack of opposition to a reversion of this trial, I have now decided to be bold and perform it. The BAG has returned to a system under which users must go through a short period of discussion (like RfA, but less formal) before being added to the group by either a 'crat or an existing member. At the moment, I have said that discussions should last for 10 days and that community noticeboards should be spammed to encourage participation in each request - evidently this is to avoid the "cabal" impression.

As you have already been a member for some time, you're likely to be an excellent candidate to apply to the group and I encourage you to do so. Alternatively, if you totally disagree with my changes and fail to see any merit in them at all, I'm hoping to take part in discussions on WT:BAG. Though I must ask now if I may - please don't revert me without a decent amount of discussion first. Thanks, and if you have any questions about what I've done, please leave me a message, send an email or chat on IRC. Martinp23 17:29, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

Barneca RfA nomination spam

MastCell, Pedro, Dreamafter, and DHMO, you four get your own personalized copy of User:Barneca/RfA/Thank you (below). Thanks for the nomination, faith, and support. That was much less stressful than I anticipated, and it's likely due to the strong nominations.

I won’t be too bold at first, but hopefully after starting out with baby steps I’ll find my stride. See you around! --barneca --barneca (talk) 18:14, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

Thank you! to everyone who participated in my RfA

Note: To conserve electrons and the muscles in my typing fingers, and to avoid annoying those who get annoyed by RfA spam, I’m posting this message in a few centralized locations instead of sending a message to everyone who participated. If anyone would like their own, personalized copy posted on their talk page, please let me know (a small handling fee may apply).

Mt. Rainier has absolutely nothing to do with RfA, Wikipedia, or an expression of "thank you", but there’s no such thing as too many pictures of Mt. Rainier, and it is my note, so I can put whatever I want in here.

Choices, choices… Delete today’s featured article, block Jimbo, or type "poop" in a protected template? So many choices…

Thanks so much to all who participated. Advance warning to the admins: I now consider all of you fair game if I find that I need to pester someone to help figure out a tool. In trade, I offer my services to any non-admins: if you find you need admin help with anything, let me know, and I’ll do my best to help, or point you in the direction of someone who can.

Special thanks to MastCell, Pedro, and Dreamafter, who were kind enough to offer to nominate me, and to DHMO, who surely would have if it had occurred to him ahead of time. I am somewhat embarrassed by the glowing nominations and will try to live up to them.

Rather than head off to AIV for a celebratory block of a vandal, or to CSD for a satisfying deletion of a spam page, I think I’ll start off slow, quietly poking around admin school for a little bit, blocking poor User:Barneca sock 1, and deleting pages in my user space. I don’t want to anonblock Dubai or the toolserver or something. If, in spite of my trying to be careful, you ever have a concern about any admin action I make, my door is always open.

Thanks again, everybody. --barneca (talk) 18:03, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

Hi, Dreamafter, thanks for voting in my RfA, which passed with 47 supports (I hoped for a perfect square, but two away is close enough!), 3 opposes (the first odd prime), and 0 neutrals. I'm glad the community has decided to trust me with the mop and bucket (the flamethrower isn't supported). Of course, special thanks goes to my nominators Auawise and that one guy who buried stuff (not that the thanks I give to the you isn't special!). Your edit to my userpage

Hi, could you explain why you felt it necessary to make this edit to my userpage? - Neparis (talk) 03:54, 24 February 2008 (UTC)

Yes I can explain it, I did it because a lot of users dislike redirects and so I changed it for that reason only. ~ Dreamy § 19:54, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
(copying your reply here per my talk page instructions) Well, what you are doing is contrary to the guideline WP:REDIRECT: Do not change links to redirects that are not broken. Maybe you were not aware of this guideline, but I think it is a very good guideline, based on consensus, and we should all follow it. I would ask you, please, not to edit my userpage again (per WP:UP#OWN). I hope you won't mind my asking you, but I really prefer to keep my userpage in my own style. Thanks! - Neparis (talk) 20:10, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
(copying again) If you had actually read my response, I didn't do it for myself, but for others that dislike it, I have dozens of e-mails requesting that they be changed, just so you know. ~ Dreamy § 20:14, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
Excuse me, but I did read your reply. What you did is wrong because it is clearly against WP:REDIRECT. My userpage is my business, not yours. It does not matter how many complaints or email requests you have. You should tell those people to read the guideline. Please take my advice, or if you doubt me, check with somebody else on WP:AN. - Neparis (talk) 20:30, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
(copying again)Just so you know, I have already admitted to a mistake, stop attempting to order me around, I have been here longer, and have racked up more contibutions than you, and if you read the very first sentence of this you'll see that it clearly states that "user space still belongs to the community", so I am technically in the right with having edited the page, but in violation of a semi-policy. ~ Dreamy § 20:53, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
I appreciate you were acting in good faith, and your climbdown, though perhaps you can point me to where you "already admitted to a mistake", because I failed to see that. Anyway, from the guideline you cited

In some cases a more experienced editor may make a non-trivial edit to your userpage, in which case that editor should leave a note on your talk page explaining why this was done. This should not be done for trivial reasons.

- Neparis (talk) 21:15, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
Ah, whatever, I probably should have mentioned it, but I thought it was much to trivial to bother mention it, ah well, sorry for not mentioning it. ~ Dreamy § 21:22, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
Ok, no harm done, and thanks for the apology. I hope our editing paths cross again in happier circumstances. See you around. - Neparis (talk) 21:27, 24 February 2008 (UTC)

Order of the White Star

I am not sure if I understand why reverted my addition (see [1]). What do you mean exactly by saying "Doesn't need that, does not include references"? I do think that the information about recipients is relevant... Obviously having the key recipients listed in the article would have been better (and having the Estonian website as a reference). Did you perhaps mean this, or something else? --Trainthh (talk) 20:05, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

Actually, I did think it was a vandalism. It has been a target of vandalism before, that is why it is semi-protected, if you haven't noticed. Updating the clock without simultaneously updating the DYK can lead to serious disruption of the process. Can you explain why you made such edit with the edit summary "Updated it"? It doesn't make much sense. --BorgQueen (talk) 18:06, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

You see, I hadn't read the template properly before I edited it, and I made the mistake of updating what I though was just the time, not the clock for the next update, it was a genuine mistake, and as you said, it is semi-protected, I am obviously able to edit it, and I would consider myself an experienced user. I am sorry for my inconvenience, and I hope you noticed that I did not revert you, I explained, and asked for an explanation. Again, truly sorry. The only real reason that I knew of the pages' existence is that I have contributed to the DYK before, see here for proof of that. ~ Dreamy § 20:28, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

Milhist stuff

Hi there Dreamafter, I have reverted your change to the newsletter, that article was promoted in March so it is in the March 2008 newsletter. Also, I couldn't help but notice when I was tallying up the contest entries that you are assessing your own articles. Generally this shouldn't be done, mainly for reasons of nepotism, and the fact that we are blind when it comes to our own articles. If you want an article assessed, just list it at WP:MHA#REQ and someone will do it for you. Great job on the articles for this month, though they all do need a bit of expansion before GA. Regards. Woody (talk) 22:49, 1 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi Dreamafter, by the way quoting the updated FAC instructions: "Graphics are discouraged (for example, Y Done or N Not done), as they slow down the page load time." Sandy doesn't like people breaking up the text so I would just list what you have done to resolve the issues in a paragraph underneath his issues. If you have any questions or need any help, just leave a note on my talkpage. Woody (talk) 22:39, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Ha, don’t put too much confidence in my linguistic abilities. ;) Perhaps the “Description” section could be divided into two, more general parts (e.g. “Turret” - the distinguishing feature - and “Chassis”)? Ammo, howitzer, etc. info would go in "turret" and engine, gearbox, weight, armor, etc. in "chassis". Obviously, there would be some overlap (e.g. armor), but I don’t know that there’s really a right way to do it. ЭLСОВВОLД talk 17:56, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

New! BCAD drive from Milhist

Can I invite you to particpate in our new assessment drive? It's strictly for experienced editors and has a degree of friendly competition built-in. It involves re-evaluating around 3500 Milhist B-Class articles to ensure they match our new criteria. As ever, we're offering a range of awards as our way of expressing our thanks. The drive doesn't start until 18:00 (UTC) on March 10 but you can sign up in advance here. It would be great if you can spare the time, --ROGER DAVIES talk 05:33, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

I recently found your name on the member page, and, knowing that you are fair, honest and not above giving out criticism, so I was wondering if you could check this page for basic alterations and copy-editing. Only help out there if you have the spare time, and if you're interested. ~ Cheers! Dreamy § 22:47, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi, how're you going?
I've looked at the page, and I'm really not sure how much I can do. Really the main thing I see that needs to be done is reorganising the way the references are set out, but I really don't know how to do that...
I've reformatted a couple of things, but other than that, I think this is someone else project.
Sorry I couldn't help more! CattleGirl talk 10:19, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
I am fine, how would you prefer that the references were better laid out? ~ Cheers! Dreamy § 20:56, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
I had some spare time, so I fixed a couple more things. With the references, they're pretty good, I've just deleted a couple of refs that were already cited just beforehand (you can see what I've done in the history of the page) or shuffled around the order they were in. It's looking good! Cheers- CattleGirl talk 08:38, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

Magic (Artemis Fowl)

Hello Dreamafter, I have a question about the page I linked to in the header. In February 2007 (approximately a year ago) it looks as though User:Jaranda (now Secret) deleted the page, though I could not find a relevant AFD/PROD/CSD tag. What was the precedent for deleting the article? Since it's in the "To be written" section of the AF Wikiproject box, I was thinking of creating it (since I've seen there for several months). Hope you can help me. Thanks, GlobeGores (talk page | user page) 18:01, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

Okay, I see it at User:Dreamafter/Drafts. Thanks. GlobeGores (talk page | user page) 23:36, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
I'm drafting a (originally) draft of the article at User:GlobeGores/Magic (Artemis Fowl) Feel free to change anything or improve anything you see there! Cheers, GlobeGores (talk page | user page) 01:07, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

Milhist contest

Just a note to say that after a discussion by the coordinators, it was thought best if a coordinator closes and updates the contest page. Thankyou for your continued interest in Milhist. Woody (talk) 18:03, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets/Dreamafter

You have already admitted – and the checkuser report independently confirms – that you and CD-MD share the same IP address. The checkuser report cannot of course establish who was using the computer so, assuming good faith, your explanation is within the realm of possibility. However, it is unlikely that a similar explanation will be accepted as plausible if there are any recurrences.

To protect yourself in future, you are advised to study Wikipedia policy on sockpuppets, in particular, the sections on meatpuppets and roommates. The penalties for sockpuppetry can be severe. For the avoidance of doubt, here are extracts from sockpuppet policy:

If a person is found to be using a sock puppet, the sock puppet accounts may be blocked indefinitely. The main account also may be blocked at the discretion of any administrator.

If two users live or work together, their accounts may appear to be sock puppets ... To avoid accusations of sock puppetry, such users may want to make an advance declaration on their user pages. Closely connected users may be considered a single user for Wikipedia's purposes if they edit towards the same objectives. When editing the same articles, participating in the same community discussion, or supporting each other in any sort of dispute, closely related accounts should disclose the connection and observe relevant policies such as three revert rule as if they were a single account. If they do not wish to disclose the connection, they should avoid editing in the same areas.

It is a great pity that this has come up because you are a promising and valued contributor to the encyclopedia. I trust that we can now put this behind us. --ROGER DAVIES talk 05:57, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

Moved page question

I believe that was some time ago when spaces were used for French aircraft carriers (Clemenceau (R 98), Foch (R 99), Jeanne d'Arc (R 97)). Josh (talk) 23:51, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

Rudeness

Trust me, if you'd seen the (since-deleted) material he posted, you'd completely agree with my wording. DS (talk) 01:47, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

Actually, I believe I was thinking of another problem user. Jonferris's deleted contribs were crap, yes, but I concede that I may have been overly harsh towards him. That said, he has started an RfA for himself - with an edit history of 5. Not a good sign. DS (talk) 01:58, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
Oh, and for the record, we damn well can kick people out of the free, anyone-can-edit encyclopedia, and we do - typically for very good reasons. As for the material on Cronenworth - it's just a little bit of a bio blurb, with no notability asserted, and submitted by the man's son. "SFC Cronenworth served in Company/Regiment, he was wounded in the hand and arm on (date), he was wounded a year later also, he got the Silver Star and the Purple Heart." To put it bluntly, what else is there? We don't list people just because they got the Silver Star and Purple Heart. There has to be something more. DS (talk) 02:03, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

With regard to blocking policy

Dragonfly67 did not invent the blocking policy. See WP:BLOCK for more information, and ask your question at the talk page there. But leave him alone please. Continuing to badger him is harassment, and if you continue to do so, you may be blocked yourself. --Jayron32.talk.contribs 02:22, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

Hey, I was wondering, Puerto Rican Amazon passed GAN in the recess between the cup's first and second rounds, since it wasn't included in the score of the first round then will it be summed to that of the second one? - Caribbean~H.Q. 23:29, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
