[edit] Birmingham mediation?

Hi. Just wondering what's the status on this. Hughsheehy (talk) 14:59, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

Dispite your warnings, the edit warring is up and at it. Any chance of stepping in? --Domer48 (talk) 21:01, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

 • Are you saying this is not true? Aatomic1 (talk) 23:28, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
Hi Dreamy. I don't think your note on my talk page is accurate. I believe the same users are still arguing the same points. The question is whether any of the arguments have any validity. Hughsheehy (talk) 18:02, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
 • I think this explains what you are after. Aatomic1 (talk) 21:14, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

...and if you are still in the dark follow the link Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Arbitration enforcement#Edit warring related to "The Troubles". Aatomic1 (talk) 21:28, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

I think its now time for the enforcement of the troubles mediation as Atomic is editing warring again.--Padraig (talk) 22:33, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
Hi Dreamafter. I think that you need to take a look at the conclusion of your mediation on the Birmingham Pub Bombings. The conclusion and reasons you've given are entirely unsatisfactory. I think we now need to move that discussion to a more formal review. I'm extremely disappointed that after months of patient waiting since the initial discussions you would do something like ignoring many of the contributions and moving to close the mediation within an hour, stating incorrectly that only one editor is supporting the inclusion of victim information. [edit] Response to Dreamafter at RfA

Well, I have to say those are some difficult questions to answer as I really cannot think of anything specific that made me think that you should be an administrator. I would have to say that I think you would be a good administrator because you have plenty of experience here, you seem to know your may around, and you don't seem likely to cause any problems as an admin. As for things to improve, I would say that your RfA pointed some out civility problems. I have seen many RfAs receive many opposes because of incivil incidents. Another thing pointed out at your RfA was to make sure to only tag articles for speedy deletion if you are certain they apply under one of the categories. When in doubt, tag the article for WP:PROD or make an WP:AFD. Basically, note the concerns of the opposers in you RfA and make sure to fix them. As for places you are doing good work in, I think Wikipedia:Request an account is one of them. I have seen a good deal of work in there by looking at your contributions. As for your last question about nominating you on April 8, 2008, I would be glad to do so then. Sorry if I did not answer your questions completely. Please tell me on my talk page if there is anything that I need to fix in relation to the answers to your questions. Captain panda 04:04, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Spinto Did I Ever Tell You.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Spinto Did I Ever Tell You.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 17:03, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Mediator

I'm not really an outside party on this, I've been involved in various discussions dating back to the start of the year. The other parties certainly won't accept me as an outside mediator. That said, unless Hughsheehy is willing to compromise I think further discussion is a waste of everyone's time. Thanks. One Night In Hackney303 23:42, 25 November 2007 (UTC)

Hi. Not only do I think that the current "mediation" is going nowhere in particular (and I'm going to continue to push for a more formal process), but even your attempt to nominate a highly partisan participant of the discussion as a mediator also damages your standing as a non-involved party. Hughsheehy (talk) 19:23, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

As I said, I consider it pointless to continue with the mediation. Even taking it to MEDCOM will probably be a waste of time with the current unwillingness of certain people to compromise. For example see Wikipedia talk:Requests for mediation/Northern Ireland flag usage#The current state of this mediation which has failed to produce a result, due in part to unwillingness of some parties to compromise. If parties only seek to use the process to force through their preferred version, it's an abuse of the process and Wikipedia in general. Thanks. One Night In Hackney303 21:37, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

Hi, you have left a rather unusual and cryptic GA Review on the above article. There is no in popular culture section and there is no tag on the lead, so your instructions do not seem to have any relation to the article in question. Please can you clarify this for me?--Jackyd101 01:49, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

Have you passed this article or not? It says so on the article talk page but the article is still at GAN and isn't on the GA mainpage. I can do all the moving around if you like, but please confirm that you have indeed passed the article. In response to you comment on my talk page, I don't think that references in the lead are encouraged except for direct quotes as long as all lead statements are covered by the rest of the text, as in this case. [edit] Mediation - Birmingham

Hi. Can you tell me what's happening now on the Birmingham mediation? I see ONIH saying he's giving up on it. I have notes from Aatomic saying that there's apparently another "Way forward" already being pursued, etc. I was assembling various points as back up for the "pro" side, but am not sure that there's a point right now. Is anything sensible happening or is it just going to be a free-for-all in editing the whole area? (an area that has already apparently worn out a bunch of admins on arbcoms, etc). Hughsheehy 19:17, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

HI again...the mediation history seems to have disappeared....along with a bunch of references gathered by people. Is it recoverable? Hughsheehy (talk) 23:48, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Hi Dreamafter!

Hello! I know we've not yet had the opportunity to interact, so allow me to officially say greetings! I notice you're on the BAG, and I'd like to request that you take a look at my comment here, as it doesn't seem to have been seen by anyone on the BAG yet. The bot in question has not done any edits since the 9th, but even after spending hours upon hours removing Example.jpg from mainspace areas, I've barely made a dent, and if the bot were to start up again, it would only be more difficult to repair all the affected pages. I apologize for coming to you out of the blue with this, I did discuss it with Cobi, who agreed with my suggestion for the change (as explained in the link), so I look forward to your opinions. [edit] Idea

Okay, here's why I needed that stuff. See, I thought making custom signatures would be a lot easier if the users filled out a nowikied template and then deleted the nowiki tags to get their sigs. Say I had another request (which I never will). The template would be mapped out like this:

<font face="Copperplate Gothic"> <font color="#FF0000">Gp</font> <font color="#000000">75</font><font color="#FF0000">motorsports</font> <font color="#800000"> REV LIMITER</font></font>

That would then produce:

Gp75motorsports REV LIMITER

after being wikied. It could probably be ironed out a little more, but this is after all just a suggestion. Let me know what you think. --Gp75motorsports REV LIMITER 03:16, 16 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Colons in RMlink

In response to the question "Why should it have colons in it" which you left as an edit summary when removing the colons from Template:RMlink (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs), the answer is that due to technical restrictions, an invisible character (a colon) is needed to link to pages in certain namespaces. The colon does not affect links to other namespaces, so is harmless. For example, (no colon) will produce , whereas 20px (with colon) will produce a link: 20px. Where ir doesn't matter, for example in the mainspace, there is no difference: Wikipedia and :Wikipedia both produce the same thing - Wikipedia and Wikipedia. I hope this explains why colons are used in the template. --GW_SimulationsUser Page | Talk 01:06, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] RFA

Hi Dreamafter,

I haven't forgotten your kind offer to co-nominate me for adminship right around this time, but as I suspected when you left your note last month, I'm just not at a stage right now where I can devote time to (a) an RFA, and (b) a few tasks I'd like to complete before I try again. Probably late January or February, but can't be sure. I really want all my i's dotted and t's crossed before I try again, and want to be as ready as I can possibly be this time around; I have no desire for there to be a Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Barneca 3. When I think I'm ready, I'll let you know. And thanks again. --barneca (talk) 22:28, 1 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Heuschrecke 10 turret off.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Heuschrecke 10 turret off.jpg.

Thank you. Ɛƚƈơƅƅơƚɑ talk 17:30, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Heuschrecke 10 images

Please do not remove the deletion flags from these images. Even if the proper non-fair use rationale and license tags are added, they are not relevant unless you have been given permission by the images’ authors to so use them. Simply put, you cannot take images from other websites and just throw tags onto them. We can bring this to the attention of a sysop if needed, but further removal of the warnings will be considered vandalism unless proof is provided that the authors have released the images. [edit] Marking patrolled

In order to mark a page as patrolled, you first have to go to Special:Newpages. From there, you click on a recently created article, and if the article is listed for deletion (via prod, speedy, or AFD), or if you feel that the article should remain on Wikipedia, you click the "Mark page as patrolled" link at the bottom of the page. That way no one is wasting time looking at an article that already has been looked at. Hope that helps! Icestorm815 (talk) 21:59, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Your Upcoming RfA

I am willing to nominate you whenever you wish. I may actually start working on the nomination tonight as it will likely take some time to do. (I have not nominated someone for adminship before.) However, are you certain that you can show in the RfA that you have dealt with the concerns of the opposers? I am not saying that you have not dealt with the concerns, but I am saying that some people may not be convinced that you have. In addition, I would like to ask you about you position in WP:BAG. From what I have seen, you do not have any experience in running bots or computer programming. My apologies if I am incorrect, but I think that would be a judgment concern to participants in your RfA if you are a member of BAG with little or no bot experience. Can you please clarify this matter to me? Thank you in advance. :) Sorry if that sounded like I was accusing you. I just think that it is better that I point out these concerns to you rather than opposers in your RfA. :) Captain panda 23:12, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

Well those seem to answer my questions very nicely, so I guess that I will get working on the nomination statement. :) Captain panda 23:40, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
The nomination is complete. Feel free to accept at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Dreamafter 2 whenever you are ready. I hope it succeeds! Captain panda 16:01, 5 January 2008 (UTC)
I'm confused. Why was the original version of your second RfA deleted? Just so you know, I do intend to bring up the fact that you have already tried to run a second time if you do not disclose it. GlassCobra 17:50, 5 January 2008 (UTC)
I have moved the material to the subpage that you specified. I included everything that was said, including votes, and would ask that you make no modifications to it so that everything is visible to all participants. GlassCobra 21:29, 5 January 2008 (UTC)
For the sake of openness, you might consider moving your current RfA to Dreamafter 3 and moving 2 (Original) just to 2. GlassCobra 23:41, 5 January 2008 (UTC)
It's been taken care of. GlassCobra 00:16, 6 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Cadet Wikia line on Royal Canadian Air Cadet article

The link to the cadet wikia is back. There is a bit of an edit war going on over at the site (ie the sysop versus the rest of the world). The guy who posted the link isn't above finding out personal info on you and posting it on the net. He also creates multiple accounts to reinforce his positions.

Recommend you remove the link and maybe banning him. If he turns his attention to the RCAC article, it will (not could but will) get ugly. CU L8R AV8R ... J-P (talk) 20:16, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Uhm...hello ;)

You don't know me, but I was sent to you by another user named Blow of Light. He actually kind of welcomed me to this website and offered me to help me creating a new design for a signature. The one he created for me looks really neat in my opinion: AmandaT/C He told me to add this text into my preferences, but when I saved it like this it was all messed up for some reason. He told me you would be able to help me, so that's kind of why I'm here... to ask you if you would be so kind to help me and him :) Thanks, AmandaPirato (talk) 05:05, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] DYKs

I am sorry to inform you that I have closed your RfA as unsuccessful. Do not be too disheartened - many of our finest admins had unsuccessful RfA attempts. I hope you will take onboard the concerns raised by those opposing and will consider running again in the future when you feel you have addressed those concerns. [edit] Mediation

I note User:Dreamafter/Mediation/Answer/Summaries/Final/Discussion has been blanked. Is it possible to retrieve this information? Aatomic1 (talk) 21:21, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

This is in regard to Birmingham pub bombings. Both sides are citing your mediation closure (both the old one and the new one) as reasons to continue edit-warring to either take the list out or to put it back in. SirFozzie (talk) 20:51, 15 January 2008 (UTC)
This is because Aatomic dosen't like that fact that the mediation was reopened, as many weren't aware of it and others where too busy being involved with the Troubles arbcom at the time. When it was reopened Aatomic couldn't provide a reason too justify the lists of the dead and continued edit warring over a number of articles, this resulted in the mediation being closed as he was ignoring it and seem intent on continuing no-matter what the outcome was. He was later put one revert probation as per the Troubles arbcom, and recently started edit warring again on this issue which earned him another probation period.--Padraig (talk) 21:12, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Roll Call for WikiProject Artemis Fowl

The new logo! Greetings from the Artemis Fowl Project. Your name is listed on our participants page, but we continue to be unsure of how many of the people listed there are still active contributors to the Project's activities. If you are still interested in participating in the work of the Project, please add your name to the active list. Once you have done that, you might want to familiarize yourself with the current work. On behalf of the Project, if you do consider yourself to have left, I hope you will consider rejoining; if you have left, then you will have been gone for at least two months, so your name will be removed from the list, and the list will become a single list of only active editors. If you decide to return, please comment on the talk page. Happy editing, The Artemis Fowl Project Coordinators'.

The Barnstar of Diligence

[edit] Apollo RfA

Can you explain on what basis you transcluded the RfA of a new user weeks after it had been created? Have you had contact with this person in the intervening time? I have removed it pending its expansion/reformatting or some expression by the candidate that he/she wishes it to proceed. Avruchtalk 00:38, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Artemis Fowl Coordinators.

Dreamafter, I don't see the point of having Coordinators. I can't find a single project with them. Most decisions are reached by WP:CON anyway, so overuling a particular person is not per wikipedia's policy. --Hanaichi 02:26, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

Oh yes, I just read it. But however, the particular coordinators there aren't exactly given extra powers like overuling decisions are they? I know you are a responsible user, but those who might be swayed by WP:ILIKEIT can make disasterous decisions resulting in numerous fancruft articles and who knows what.--Hanaichi 04:14, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Question

It's from back when putting colored letter links in one's signature was popular; this particular one had:

|-
| style="padding: 3px; text-align: center;" | The red <font color="#960018">h</font> in my signature means that I'm a member of the Military history WikiProject, an association of Wikipedians dedicated to improving Wikipedia's articles on military history.

[edit] My RfA

Hey there, I'm writing to inform you that I have withdrawn my request for adminship, which was currently standing at 11 supports, 22 opposes and 6 neutrals. This count could have been so much better if I had understood policy, although I believe that 17 questions is a lot to ask of a user's first RfA. I will take on all comments given at the RfA and will endeavour to meet the high expectations of the RfA voters. WEBURIEDOURSECRETSINTHEGARDENplay it cool. 21:07, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
