The policy can be very well misguided and nothing is stopping us from changing it. Regardless, the symbol, as used in the template right now, is very clearly released by the US Gvmt into the public domain. I don't understand why there's even so much as an argument over this. I don't care what if the ISA is copyrighted or not, because I'm not using the ISA anywhere. I'm using an image taken from a publication produced by the federal government, which states very clearly in its introduction that the images contained in the publication are in the public domain (with the exception of the interstate highway shield). Thanks.  —lensovettalk – 08:48, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:BMG I Feel Love.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:BMG I Feel Love.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. After Midnight 0001 23:22, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use Image:Flecktones.jpg

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Flecktones.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Angr 10:21, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

Tagging of SEPTA Route 108

I recently removed a speedy delete tag that you had placed on SEPTA Route 108. I do not think that SEPTA Route 108 fits any of the speedy deletion criteria because The name, locations served, plus the category give ample context for any editor wishing to expand this stub. i have added a proepr link to SEPTA. I request that you consider not re-tagging SEPTA Route 108 for speedy deletion without discussing the matter on the appropriate talk page. DES (talk) 02:26, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

  • I have done the same with the articles for routes 14, 58, 65, and 70. DES (talk) 02:28, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
and if you are going to prod them, give a reason. The format is {{sust:prod|whatever the reason is}} Prod notices without reasons don't help anyone. When you place the prod, use the code that will appear on the template after you save it to notify whoever has been working on the article.
But, following up what DESiegel says, it would probably be more effective to bring several (3 or 4, not 20) related articles --all having the same content or lack of it -- to AfD, as the nominations are likely to be controversial. See WP:AFD for the procedure.DGG (talk) 16:53, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Gallery logo.gif)

Thanks for uploading Image:Gallery logo.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Logical quotation punctuation

Please do not "fix" the use of periods/stops and quotation marks, as you did two months ago in Template:Cite episode, by moving the periods inside the quotes unless the periods are part of the quoted material. This system is a years-old convention arrived at through considerable work and compromise at WP:MOS, and subsequent wars fought over this issue have not managed to break the compromise. (The idea, as I recall, was for each of the two main uber-dialects, American and British usage, to give a bit by adopting the American "double quote, single quote" standard, which avoids certain technical problems with search, and the British "logical punctuation" standard, which avoids both ambiguity in quoting and technical problems with careless scripting, since computers are relentlessly logical.) Let me know if you have any questions about this, and thank you for your cooperation. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 20:50, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with Image:U2 Last Night on Earth.png

Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:U2 Last Night on Earth.png. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI 16:44, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

Airport People Movers

I am really tired of hearing that proper grammer is incorrect. Even though wikipedia's policy about capitalization is different, proper grammer shows that titles are capitalized. And your case doesn't hold up, as we can add text which can display defunct ones. I have edited many airline, airport, and aviation pages in general and I do not believe I need your approval as to how to edit them. I will however put this in the discussion page and see what other user's think. The name and format of my table is widely used and easy to edit.--Golich17 00:08, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

Image Copyright problem

This is an automated message from a robot. You have recently uploaded Image:6logo.png. The file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 18:05, 6 September 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. If you believe you received this message in error, please notify the bot's owner. Could you explain in more detail why you tagged that image for deletion? It has a proper nonfree license tag (non-free film screenshot) and a fair use rationale. It does carry the withpermission tag, but we accept that tag if it is used in conjunction with a valid nonfree license tag.

I agree that it would be better to replace the image with a different nonfree image that didn't have the text over it. But we don't have a deletion criteria for nonfree images that should be replaced by better nonfree images. If you have a copy of the film, however, and can take a screenshot, that would be great.

The reason I was watching this image is that I also nominated it for deletion, but was later convinced that there is no free replacement. I do think a fresh screenshot would be better, but I don't have a copy of the movie. — Carl (CBM · talk) 13:55, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
