Dreadstar can you block this IP, I'm getting tired of following him around reverting vandalism (I see you reverted one just before I did a few minutes ago).Cireshoe 06:51, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

Your first admin type request

What's wrong with this page? How can it be fixed? Yung D. Kww 00:01, 21 September 2007 (UTC)

The pages that point to it (Just Like U (album) and Fridayz) expect it to be a link to a page about a rapper. I suspect that whole group of pages need to be deleted as non-notable, but I would at least want to look at the page before I request deletion of his albums. Kww 00:46, 21 September 2007 (UTC)

Your Hanszen College edits

Thanks for the response, Dreadstar. I can see how my edit appeared to be vandalism on account of the "checks and balances" remark as well as others. I am brand new to Wikipedia and have not worked out the ins and outs of which information should and should not be included. However, as silly as it sounds, all of that information (even the part about the 'curmudgeon sheriff' and the 'two dollar bill') is actually taken directly from the minutes of the Hanszen Government's proceedings when the position of Sheriff Emeritus was created. I was the Hanszen Parliamentarian at the time, so I can assure you that this is real. Now, of course the Hanszen cabinet created this position as a way of making a joke, but isn't it within the scope of Wikipedia to accurately record the quirky history of an institution like Hanszen College? Things like the appointment of a Sheriff Emeritus (a patently ridiculous proposition that was couched in the terms of an academic reference to classical political philosophy, i.e. Montesquieu) make Hanszen the interesting and unique place that it is. I would argue that this information goes much further in capturing the essence of Hanszen than some of the other sections of the article that have been deemed legitimate (for instance, "Whether it is day or night, students always need coffee.") I became involved in this issue after my roommate's similar contributions had been repeatedly removed. I would like to note that there are several users defending the addition of this information (I happen to know most of them, and they are current and former members of the college who I believe legitimately want to record Hanszen's unique character) and only one that continues to object (apparently an alumnus from before the time of the first Sheriff who assumes this is not real and has the equally legitimate concern of preventing fake information about Hanszen from being disseminated). I can see that some of the discussion has gotten out of hand, and is even vulgar at times. I thought as a former Hanszen Parliamentarian I could help to resolve what has become a somewhat contentious issue.

Also, you mentioned I should provide a source or a citation. I have the official meeting minutes available around here somewhere. Would that be adequate? How are those citations usually done? Should I scan it and post it online, or just type up the relevant section?

Thanks a lot for your help. --Cumpetsolita 19:49, 23 September 2007 (UTC)

In case you are still interested in this article:

I've decided to take a slightly different approach to this article than usual. The edit warring is not that severe and the article needs work. I don't think locking it down is the best approach. Instead I am going to institute a state of 1RR. Anything more than 1 revert by any user will result in a short block. Any type of threat, personal attack, or harassment will also result in a block. I have also blocked User:82.67.185.164 for the legal threat on the talk page. Anything disputed should be discussed on the talk page, but the dispute and a slow edit war should not stop needed improvement. I will copy this comment to user talk pages of those involved in the dispute and the article talk page, so there will be no "I didn't know" excuse for edit warring. Mr.Z-man 19:22, 30 September 2007 (UTC)

I need assistance

At the Radionics article I have been reverted by two editors engaging in an edit war against the article purely based on POV. I sourced and added content well sourced to the article but they keep reverting it probably hoping I will fall in the 3R rule. Please can you revert to my last edition and protect the page or issue them a blocking warning? They don't make any constructive edit, only delete the page and I cannot make more reverts. I really need your help in this one. Thanks JennyLen☤ 15:09, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

Please don't try to get other users to assist in an edit war. Let's try to discuss the article rather than simply reverting it. Wikidudeman (talk) 15:11, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

Things heating up on Schip article

Hi, Dreadstar. I've been following the Schip bill passed by Congress. It's a bit controversial, and today Bush vetoed it. The Wikipedia article[4] is starting to heat up, with an editor adding in some highly opinionated and inaccurate commentary. Any chance you could keep an eye on it in case edit warring breaks out? Thanks. TimidGuy 17:33, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. Looks like it may not be attracting too much attention after all. Will let you know if anything comes up. TimidGuy 01:07, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

contesting deletion of "The Milk Factory"

May I ask why you considered my article on The Milk Factory to be blatant advertising? It is a legitimate web magazine of music, and it has been around for a quite a while and merited a good deal of respect. Seeing as how there are articles on, say, pitchfork media, I don't see the fairness in deleting one on The Milk Factory. Dav Brav 19:42, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

Hi Dav, thanks for your question. The article was actually deleted for two reasons, one was due to No assertion of importance/significance, and it quite frankly just looked like an article meant to advertise the site. Read through Wikipedia:Notability, and then through the core content policies Wikipedia:Verifiability, No Original Research, and Neutral point of view for more information on creating Wikipedia articles. One of the problems was there were no reliable third-party published sources that would establish notability. Let me know if I can be of any further help. Dreadstar 19:54, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
I've found some links to support the relevance of the milk factory, and suggest it be recreated. Here is an article in which Warp Records asked the editor of The Milk Factory to review their year of releases, for an official feature on their site. Additionally, The Milk Factory has featured a wide of array of interviews with artists, which I can link (in addition to references to said interviews) upon request. Once again, given that other music webzines (such as Pitchfork Media and Tiny Mix Tapes) have articles, I see no reason to deny that for The Milk Factory. Dav Brav 00:17, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

I'm wondering if I did the deletion proposal on this page right. I'm not too familiar with the process, and it just got reverted. ——Martinphi (Talk Ψ Contribs) 05:06, 6 October 2007 (UTC)

Could be. I don't know how to interpret "significant" in "significant coverage in reliable secondary sources that are independent of the subject." Userpage

Hey I just noticed you had a userbox that was outside of the table, resulting in horizontal scrolling. It looks like it was either substituted instead of transcluded, or maybe tweaked to be smaller. But it didn't work because it did not allow it to be in the table. Anyway, long story short, I fixed it, but if you hate that userbox, tell me and I'll make you a custom one to use! Your most humble servant, LadyAriel 05:41, 6 October 2007 (UTC)

Okay, a couple other questions. Do you want the userboxes to be visible, or would you like them in a show/hide box? Also, would you prefer custom userboxes with all the same style/color/borders, to match the page, but that say the exact same things? (You can see what I mean at Daniel's page.) Also, do you want a navbar at the top, that would have icons for awards, articles, email, talk page, archives, etc.? ArielGold 06:52, 6 October 2007 (UTC)
LOL! Oy! I'm not sure I can figure out how to do that, lol. Did you ever read about the guy who had redecorated his entire house into full Okuda-esque design, and all appliances, lighting, AC/heat, etc., were in those panels? I remember seeing it on some TV show (History channel I think) thinking wow, that's wild, lol. But, I'm honestly not sure I'm good enough at this whole coding thing to make it like that, lol. ArielGold 07:37, 6 October 2007 (UTC)
LOL In my dreams! Plus, honestly? Black background is really hard on the eyes for general reading. I've yet to see a black backgrounded userpage that looks good. I wouldn't really recommend doing that anyway, even if I did know how to make that kind of complicated layout from the code available. (And indeed, I'm not even truly sure it could be done, looking it over more closely.) But, we can have dark colors combined with some silvers and steel blue, and images of space, for the navbar. What about the userboxes? ArielGold 07:44, 6 October 2007 (UTC)

Well...

It isn't really what I had in mind, but what I had in mind didn't work out, so I had to go back to basics and work from there. Still, it is clean, and neat, although you didn't have much text to put into the sections, lol. I did decide to customize all your userboxes, and I think they are much improved like this. At the top I added a really tiny navigation bar, with your email link, links to your article/awards pages (although they are also in the section) and links that you may find useful over the course of a day (hopefully). So, I'm going to go sleep for a while, and I hope, and cross my fingers, that you don't hate it, lol. ~*Hugs*~ ArielGold 13:50, 6 October 2007 (UTC)

I'm glad you kinda like it. I wanted to use this image: Image:CaledfwlchGoldShine.jpg, it is awesome, but I couldn't find a really good way to fit it on the page. I'm still looking for an image that is more horizontal and could fit above the userbox section well. ~*Hugs*~ ArielGold 12:50, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
Okay, I figured out a way to add that sword image I liked to the page, but I had to add a userbox as well, or it would have left a row with only one (and looked uneven). I added a "Wikipedian since" box, with a cool picture. Let me know if you like it! ArielGold 13:24, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

Personal Attack from user Netmonger

Hi,

I would like to report Netmonger for a personal attack made against me here. This is not the first time this has happened. He has been blocked here about a week ago for posting a harassing message on my talk page here and sending me a vulgar harassing e-mail. Thank you. Wiki Raja 05:55, 8 October 2007 (UTC)

Gah

I can't find any admins on! Are you around? I saw you block someone, but I'm not sure if you're still around right now, lol. ArielGold 08:07, 8 October 2007 (UTC)

Ahhh my hero, Lord Dreadstar! I've been sitting on these for hours lol. I'm wondering what your thoughts are on these two usernames: User:I Am Murderman, (concerns me because I cannot rationally think of any positive reason to create a name with "murder" in it), and the "refers to real life violence" in WP:U would seem to back that up. No contributions. Also, User:Illinois Nazi. A tour through the archives at RFCN shows every single instance of "Nazi" in a username blocked as inflammatory. This username has made one edit (and it was valid from what I can tell) but I don't know if either is worth sending to WP:UAA. What are your thoughts? ArielGold 08:13, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
Turns out they both were obvious, and both are blocked now, lol. Although I do think it depends on the personal opinion of the admins, and their interpretation of WP:U. However, I also think the blocks were quite valid. Anyway, I'm getting tired, and I have to go see my accountant tomorrow (ugh, taxes due in 6 days!) so I'm going to go get some sleep now. Perhaps this link would be a better compromise : http://www.plakainc.com/fwgallery002.html There is no advertising - but I assume I would have to go thru copyright request again? or If I have already verified for a site - does it include just that page or anything on the site?

Help

Could you help us settle this dispute?

Wikipedia is a user edited encyclopedia that has standards as to what it accepts. Please read WP:N and Wikipedia:Five_pillars for more information. College residence halls or apartments are usually not notable unless they have some type of historical significance. You are welcome to make your case on the AfD discussion page. Rackabello 21:23, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

It does have historical significance. Jardine was built in order to accomidate the new comers after World War II and was named after former Kansas State University President, William Marion Jardine. William Marion Jardine was also a U.S. administrator and educator. He served as the Secretary of Agriculture from 1925 to 1929 and as the U.S. Ambassador to Egypt in 1930.

The fact that the apartment complex was named after a university president in it of itself doesn't establish notability, perhaps a mention in an article about William Marion Jardine but not its own article. Rackabello 21:31, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

What about it accomidating new comers after World War II? I'm sure this has historical significance unless if you think WWII is unhistorical too. Above all, this is still property of Big 12 Kansas State University were many notables have stepped foot here. Ksuwildcats10 21:49, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

just dropping by, but at every university they did a lot of building to accommodate the influx after WWII--that doesn;t quite make it for notability.DGG (talk) 06:19, 14 October 2007 (UTC)

Hi, Dreadstar; I think that really the only way to get to the bottom of that issue is to get hold of a copy of the book. I wish I could help, but I don't have time to track down that book. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 21:23, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

Regarding your question, the admin was user:Johntex. — BQZip01 — talk 23:43, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
Nice! Glad you ordered the book. I hope you find it as informative/interesting as I did. Mostly out of curiosity, where did you order it from? The library? or did you purchase it? If you're interested, here's a video of the band (the complicated part starts at about the 5:00 mark; this was me brother's senior year and he was one of the ones with a bugle in the front of the band.) — BQZip01 — talk 03:29, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

I've replied on User talk:Zerocannon. I pray this can be resolved. Much appreciated. Sephiroth BCR (Converse) 06:53, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

AIV report

Actually, it probably isn't vandalism per se. It's just that that list is for players who are considered the best in the world in their position, and Craig Gordon isn't one of those. - PeeJay 18:29, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

P.S. It wasn't that too many Scottish players were being added, it was that most/all of those who were added aren't considered "world-class" enough to be included in their respective lists. - PeeJay 18:31, 13 October 2007 (UTC)
Yes, that's basically it. I know it's terribly subjective, but I'm trying to maintain this list as best I can, and if you've seen how many reverts I've done over the past few months, you'll see how much maintenance it needs. - PeeJay 18:33, 13 October 2007 (UTC)
Good question, and to be honest it just comes from a general impression that I and others have gotten from other football fans. I think I see what you're getting at though, and I agree that the lists should probably be deleted. - PeeJay 18:38, 13 October 2007 (UTC)
I will do, and I shall also remind them that resistance is futile. ;-) - PeeJay 18:47, 13 October 2007 (UTC)
The decision has already been taken, and the lists of current players have been replaced by links to the Football (soccer) players by position categories. - PeeJay 19:12, 13 October 2007 (UTC)
Cheers, dude. And thanks for not getting on my back for what was perhaps not proper usage of WP:AIV. - PeeJay 19:15, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

Ho Ho Ho

Need your help again! :D This user has been creating [9] a lot of spin off articles, where imo they are not needed as they are already here [10]. Now I'm not sure how to nominate a whole bunch of articles as one "thing" for AfD, nor do I want to look bitey and send all these red AfD notices to his talk. So I propose we work it out and skip AfD. But you'll have to see if my opinion is justified... 0_o Phgao 06:20, 14 October 2007 (UTC)

Help?

While I want to consider ThreeE in a positive or at least neutral light, but edits like this make it increasingly difficult (and reverting the changes, despite CLEAR guidance otherwise, seems to not work well with this editor). How do you recommend I approach this? — BQZip01 — talk 21:08, 14 October 2007 (UTC)

Hmmm...I guess that would work too. Thanks. — BQZip01 — talk 21:17, 14 October 2007 (UTC)
Same basic situation x2. Now what? BTW, no wikipedian ever called him a gadfly. He did that to himself. At this point, I see no other option than to go to an RfA. Your thoughts? — BQZip01 — talk 21:53, 14 October 2007 (UTC)
You have selective memory. Here's the diff that you "appreciated." ThreeE 22:51, 14 October 2007 (UTC)
Very well, I stand corrected, but no one else put that on your page: only you. — BQZip01 — talk 23:22, 14 October 2007 (UTC)
I specifically clarified this particular comment, but ThreeE continues to take it out of context with no clarification. As to your comments, I guess I can talk to you about this, but the Texas A&M University Corps of Cadets has a similar issue, but with no resolution possibly forthcoming (he has transplanted his comments from Fightin' Texas Aggie Band to the talk page of the Corps of Cadets article). He is rehashing the same arguments that were dismissed elsewhere. Perhaps you could look at it and comment? — BQZip01 — talk 22:28, 14 October 2007 (UTC)
The arguments were not "dismissed" -- they have resulted in substantial changes to the article by consensus -- and we are not done yet. Many of the a&m articles have similar problems due to your edits which, frankly, are WP:COI-laden. ThreeE 22:54, 14 October 2007 (UTC)
Dreadstar, per our discussion, I'm not going to respond directly to ThreeE's accusations. I humbly request that you respond to the above as you see fit. Apparently, I, or anyone else associated with Texas A&M, cannot comment or provide information in Wikipedia because we have a conflict of interest, but I'm pretty sure that is not what WP:COI means. I am certainly willing to compromise, but no compromise seems forthcoming, only insisting on deletions of perfectly good information or tags intended to cast doubt as to the factual nature of an article/section/author. As you can see above ("...and we are not done yet. Many of the a&m articles have similar problems due to your edits..."), ThreeE does not intend to let up on this any time soon. I see little option but to proceed to a Request for Arbitration (not for punishment, but for a binding resolution). If you see any additional options, I'd be happy to do so. — BQZip01 — talk 23:21, 14 October 2007 (UTC)
WP:COI does not bar an editor from participating in articles, they just need to be careful when editing those articles and discuss proposed edits on the talk page while avoiding controversial edits. If ThreeE believes you truly have a COI, then he can report it to the COI notice board.
If ThreeE harasses you, let me or another administrator know and we'll look into it (same advice to you ThreeE). I'm glad to see you taking the high road here, BQZ - a path well befitting an officer...:) Hopefully you both will be able to either work together to make the articles better, or leave each other alone. Since you both seem interested in the same subject - it may be difficult, but I strongly suggest assuming good faith and maintaining civility. Dreadstar 23:33, 14 October 2007 (UTC)
Thanks DS! — BQZip01 — talk 23:42, 14 October 2007 (UTC)
How about reporting myself to the COI notice board in order to clear the air and clarify the rules to ThreeE? — BQZip01 — talk 23:44, 14 October 2007 (UTC)
Right away he goes and reverts my edit. ThreeE 00:30, 15 October 2007 (UTC)
Could you please take a look at this then, per your request. — BQZip01 — talk 01:41, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

Selective enforcement

So how come those who revert to a bad version can revert all they want, but someone who reverts back to an improved version and suddenly everyone cries "3RR! 3RR!" That doesn't make any sense. Cromulent Kwyjibo 22:21, 14 October 2007 (UTC)

To answer your question: "bad" and "improved" are subjective terms. Both opinions should be given equal weight. 3RR avoids these kinds of edit wars — BQZip01 — talk 22:28, 14 October 2007 (UTC)
Theoretically, yes, if everyone gets the memo, and not just the people you disagree with. Cromulent Kwyjibo 22:34, 14 October 2007 (UTC)
Everyone was asked on the article's talk page to stop edit warring, I left a note on your talk page because your reply to that request made it appear that you felt you had consensus and therefore the right to continue reverting to your version. I wanted to make it clear that you should not continue the edit war under the curcumstances at the time. Dreadstar 22:47, 14 October 2007 (UTC)
Thanks BQZ, good points. Also, in this particular case, both sides have been asked to stop revert warring. There has been no enforcement of WP:3RR that I'm aware of. But if the reverting continues, action will have to be taken to stop it - whether it's protecting the page or blocking those that have violated 3RR. This applies to all sides in the conflict. Everyone needs to discuss it on the talk page, and confine the comments to the editorial content of the article instead of commenting on the other editors. Dreadstar 22:35, 14 October 2007 (UTC)

As requested...

You deal with it. FYI, the Aggie Band doesn't goose step:

  1. Goose step
  2. Aggie Band

— BQZip01 — talk 04:05, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

You are right, the ref did not say goose-stepping explicitly. I have corrected it. You could have simply said so on the talk page though, rather than run, again, to an admin. ThreeE 04:06, 15 October 2007 (UTC)
I'm dealing with you as he suggested. Furthermore, the article we intended as a humorous take on the University and its traditions. Personally, I believe this specific user is trying to "balance" an article by adding as much bad stuff to it as he can, whether it is appropriate or not.
This is a copy of the entire article and appears to be intentionally steeped in excessive hyperbole and is not meant to be taken as a verbatim account of events (I'm pretty sure the virgin sacrifice happened later in the school year, but not at the Yell practice for this game[/excessive hyperbole]).
On a more humorous note, I took a friend to the Oklahoma State game and he couldn't get the War Hymn out of his head for about 5 days... — BQZip01 — talk 04:27, 15 October 2007 (UTC)
Fair enough. I thought that's what you wanted me to do. My mistake. — BQZip01 — talk 04:42, 15 October 2007 (UTC)
Alrighty, I get the picture. I see the "goose-stepping" wording was reverted. Is there still a problem? If there is, just invite me to the talk page of the disputed article. Dreadstar 04:37, 15 October 2007 (UTC)
Honestly, I believe there is still a dispute, but I will not do anything about it tonight (or likely even tomorrow). I will let other editors take a peek at it and will deal with it later. In short, this was a humorous opinion piece I don't believe should be taken seriously. — BQZip01 — talk 04:42, 15 October 2007 (UTC)
I went ahead and put in my two cents (but without reversion since there is no way I can possibly spend enough time defending it with the effort would required with this editor).
"I'd really like to see you two (and the others) try to work it out amongst yourselves." I would SO like to see that happen too. As a matter of fact, this is the only major problem I've ever faced on Wikipedia where a resolution outside of the talk page seems necessary
"You may also want to consider engaging a formal mediator." I already requested it and ThreeE rejected it out of hand. With two RfCs FA review by 20+, and a third party review from the Village pump, I think and RfA is the only thing that will settle this problem. I would be ecstatic if it weren't necessary, but I fear it may be. Any thoughts on what else to do would be appreciated. — BQZip01 — talk 05:20, 15 October 2007 (UTC)
"And if things start getting heated, let me know and I'll watchlist the page." I'd really appreciate you watching both the Corps page and the Aggie Band page. You probably have a lot of articles you watch (my watchlist is around 330), but just to keep a head's up on it, it would be appreciated. — BQZip01 — talk 05:20, 15 October 2007 (UTC)
Thanks and I concur 100% with your assessment. — BQZip01 — talk 05:24, 15 October 2007 (UTC)
Notificaion as requested. — BQZip01 — talk 05:59, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for blocking. I was wondering about that one and who was going to report/block it. — BQZip01 — talk 06:03, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
Considering that the following IP address appears to also be a sockpuppet, shouldn't additional time be added to the block? I'm not suggesting it should/shouldn't, merely requesting clarification. — BQZip01 — talk 17:01, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

Bump

Due to my somewhat increased participation in AfD, I've come across what almost seems trollish behaviour by a user, and would like your opinion. The user in question, Bobsbasement is the author of such classics as (I'll begin with more tame ones) [12], [13], [14], undoing edits which are correct [15], lost my virginity quote unquote [16], changing what another user writes with the addition of his own opinion [17], does not seem to realise AfD is not a vote but discussion [18], [19]. He was warned on his talk to stop adding links but ignored the warnings. I'm not sure what's up with him, he does not seem to be deliberating doing what he is, but is extreamely annoying. I came across him as he commented on a AfD I sent; [20], and again does not explain notable band because he dealt with a guitar shop? [21].

Other things include removing PRODs [22] which is OK, but fails to give reasons, repeated addition of outside links [23], [24], [25], [26]

I'm not sure what should be done, so I turn to you.... Phgao 07:34, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

Dear Sir

Since you were involved previously, I was wondering if you could take a look at my talk>discussion page. Martial75 now claims to have sent a letter to my ISP, based on his unfounded beliefs. I'm not quite sure what he has sent to them, since he hasn't told me. His immediate motivation for doing this has been because I have undone his warnings and postings on my personal page about sockpuppetry. I also admit that I have reverted some of the admin warnings, simply because I grew tired of seeing so many warnings every time I went to my page. However, most recently I have left a handful of warnings on my page, even though I was aware that the warnings would be saved in history. At any rate, I believe Martial75 is carrying himself as if he's a Wikipedia administrator when he's not, and I find his repeatedly visiting my personal talk page to undo my edits of it offensive and as harassment. I also believe that sending a letter to my ISP is brash and unwarranted.

Thank you for your time and consideration. Rockdiedout 10:01, 15 October 2007 (UTC)
Hello Dreadstar, here is a list of actions you may find useful: [27] Martial BACQUET 10:06, 15 October 2007 (UTC)
I admit that some of what I have done has been inappropriate, and I was blocked accordingly. However, this tracking of everything I post--as if Martial75 is an admin trying to solve something--is what I have asked him to stop doing multiple times by now. I truly believe that what Martial75 is doing is a form of harassment. For me, I have not posted a single thing to Martial75's page since I was blocked the first time a week ago. Even if this situation probably wouldn't be worth legal proceedings, I don't think it's worth sending a letter to my ISP either. That, to me, is a continuation of harassment, especially if my ISP contacts me over it and I have to explain myself to them. I should also add that I am new to Wikipedia editing--although I have been an avid reader for several years now--and I have learned my lesson from being blocked three times now (the most recent for 48 hours). I admit, having not read the rules--and getting involved in edit wars--was a mistake. However, I also believe that Martial75 is taking this too far. I want him to stop tracking everything I do on here, because that should be left to an administrator. If you could, please ask Martial75 to reconsider his brash and unwarranted action. Rockdiedout 10:54, 15 October 2007 (UTC)
From what I can tell, Martial75 and I have come to terms with our argument. I do not wish anything against Martial75 anymore. I just wish for this argument to end, and it seems that it has (so long as I obey Wikipedia rules in the future). So, please disregard my earlier request. Rockdiedout 11:11, 15 October 2007 (UTC)
I'm glad you two were able to work things out. Nice apology, Rockdiedout! Nice acceptance, Martial75. Well done, both of you. Dreadstar 14:29, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

Scat!!!

Hello Darkstar,

Recently you described my edit of "Slang term for coprophilia, a sexual fetish involving feces" To: "Slang term for coprophilia, a disgusting sexual fetish involving feces" As Vandalism!!!

Well i know it's kind of an objective and opinionated edit, but I am pretty sure most people (including Wikipedia users) consider scat to be disgusting in this context. Also I am aware that by adding the word "disgusting" to the article it may have an influence on the people reading it, who may have an undecided mind on the subject, personally if it portrays a negative stance on this issue I think it cannot be a bad thing especially if it affects a person to not do it!!!!

If i were to edit an article on pedophilia and said it was bad would that also be vandalism?

Finally i would like to say that if you do not agree with me at all on what i have said please, block me now, completely!!! Because i wouldn't want to use wikipedia as a resource if it's moderators consider Scat to be a healthy thing, If however you also consider Scat to be a bad thing in any context please review the article, re-edit it and re-establish my status.

Thank you!!!

Jean-Paul Ney

Hi Dreadstar. Sorry to bother you with this but I have been doing some simple editing on Jean-Paul Ney , I think things are getting to a point where I don't have the experience to deal with what is going on-highly inappropriate language, threats, and somewhat threatening addresses to Wikipedia itself, complicated by editors who don't sign so difficult to pin anything on anyone.Maybe this is the way its supposed to work but this seems to have gone too far.Do you have time to take a look? If not no worries. [28] - under heading"Please rewrite"(olive 19:03, 10 October 2007 (UTC))

Thanks very much Dreadstar for your faster than light response... OK not quite faster than light but pretty fast. Hopefully this will have some impact on these two guys. The language barrier is definitely an issue. I could translate it but it would take hours I am so out of practice,so thats not an option for me. I think there is a page that lists French speaking editors. I might just take a walk over that way.(olive 20:45, 10 October 2007 (UTC))

Just left a note at Wiki-project France... see what happens.(olive 21:38, 10 October 2007 (UTC))

Hi Dreastar, and olive, : about Ney and Wiki France ... Same problem on the French wiki with Mister Ney than here .. in 2005 the article qualified as " Article about a journalist who had taken a lot of merits without being able to prove half, and that caused some conflict [...] do not wish the appearance of information about his legals and psychiatric problems " was delete and blocked after a vote... and not after a lawsuit as mister Ney said. http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikip%C3%A9dia:Pages_%C3%A0_supprimer/Jean-Paul_Ney

That's why he try to recreat his legend here... Castelmore 07:55, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

Thanks, Castelmore for your information.Yes, I checked and there is no Jean-Paul Ney on Wikipedia France. I wondered from the beginning why an editor who speaks French fluently and English rather less than fluently would want to use English Wikipedia, rather than French Wikipedia. I think I looked for JPN in French Wikipedia when I first started looking at this article. So this seems a possible answer. I have concerns about the language used, the multiple threats and the fact that the apparent author of these neither apologizes nor communicates with other editors in any way when there are these concerns, nor signs his posts in any consistent way despite requests that he do so. The material is almost impossible to check for me at at least because of time constraints . I would need to actually translate myself, and although I find I remember more than I thought I did, still, it would take many hours .The translations on line are very rough, and don't provide the subtle nuances of language needed when looking for information like this. This article doth reek(is "there something rotten in the state of..." ) for me in some way and has from the beginning.I'm sorry to not have the experience to know what is next, and to leave this to you Dreadstar. I'm not sure there is a positive solution unless a good translator comes on and verifies every source entered.(olive 15:07, 13 October 2007 (UTC))
Sir Dreadstar...Seems a WP:COI situation if JPN is himself editing and the edits are possibly not truthful. Would it be appropriate to post this on COI notice board and perhaps bring in other neutral editors.(olive 16:33, 13 October 2007 (UTC))

Hello Dreadstar, thank you for praising my page! I hope this doesn't disappoint you too much, but while I'm willing to look at different online sources for the Ney article on an occasional, casual basis, I'm frankly not very interested in closely watching the article for BLP violations. Sorry. --Kyoko 16:04, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

Hello Dreadstar, as i wrote on Ney discussion page I think the sources I added : Le Monde, one of the most important newspaper in France, and Zataz.com, one of the most important website about internet news in France, are quiete accurate and reliable... surely more reliable than the self promotion from JP Ney websites. and btw as i wrote to Getonyourfeet, kitetoa.com is also a pretty good source of information on the french web, owned by a french journalist ( not me ). Winning trials and a "Voltaire prize" on the Big Brother Awards for his work to defend the free of speach on internet in France [22]. Kiteoa is also now one of the organizer of BBA in France [23]Castelmore 13:25, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

Thanks very much for your work on the JPN article. just goes to show the sword is mightier than a whole lot of ... oh I dunno ....ahum.... really bad editing.(olive 21:07, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
...and pray you, good sir, that neither sword nor the pen be called upon....well... anytime soon
PS was not criticizing editing in general over at JPN just the swearing, threats and uncivil moments.Far be it for me to criticize anyone else's editing(olive 23:11, 12 October 2007 (UTC))

Hello Dreastar, I have no particular interest of relationship with Jean paul Ney, excepted i live in France and know well the character and his legendary mythomania on internet. For exemple : yesterday i learned that there is no foreword of the French president on the SPHP book (there is only a copy of a speech he made ..little difference) On the editor website nothing about this virtual foreword). Second exemple; he (JPN) was in the FBI with Regis le Sommier a report from Paris Match magazine (but the report in Paris Match is only credited to Regis Le Sommier..little difference with "being invited at the FBI"). No sources, no report made after "his invitation to the NSA" .. only a picture took in the cryptologic museum, do you really think it is a reliable source ? ...ad libitium

For the moment I seem to be rather focused on this page, 1.st because i know quite well the subject and this hagyographic page is full of b*****it (not really good for the wiki credibility). and 2nly i'll improve my english before working on other subject in english  ;-)

About sources, if you considere Kiketoa (one of the BBA organizer in France) as a self-published website and non reliable what your opinion about the reliability of informations coming from JPN website or close associate?

Ok i'made a mistake and forgot to link Le Monde, but his condamnation is also quoted in Le point sourced on the page. the last update i did were only translation of these reports. I'll try to make a new issue sourced (and correct some facts unsourced) but I'm not really confortable with the new organization of sources. I got your second e-mail. :) I've got the e-mail thingie set up to forward e-mail to my work account, but have to log in specially to my various other accounts to reply. I'm not really good at the e-mail thing. I've got 21 unanswered social e-mails. *blush* I figured I'd better go ahead and respond to you on web, which I am good at it, before it gets too far out of hand. So...hi. :) --Moonriddengirl (talk) 21:37, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

Can you watchlist for a couple days...?

Hi, Noticed that you are "on duty" right now, would you mind watchlisting Mare (horse) for a few days and keeping an eye on a couple of users? I am basically wanting to stop another edit war before it even begins. Seems User:Nathweni and User:Bananas'n'Cream have a problem with my very existence and are now resorting to threats and personal attacks. See User talk:Bananas'n'Cream. Anon IP 124.177.23.123, who just reverted my edits to Mare (horse) traces to Telestra, Australia, a generic ISP, almost certainly one of these two, not sure where Nathweni is from but Bananas'n'Cream is definitely from Australia. In short, we have had disagreements over other horse-related articles and I am just tired and frustrated at dealing with this pair. They haven't gotten themselves into "getting blocked" territory yet, but i don't think there is anything more I can say to them. particularly after my last attempt to discuss and disengage seems to have resulted in a IP revert.

I archived a spat I had with these two over shetland pony after a third party opinion settled the matter, so it wasn't cluttering up the talk page, and have removed some of the flaming that was getting started on my talk page, though if you care, the discussion was here with the heading "Where do you get offf?" I am concerned with their level of threat, and feel that it is best for a third party to step in and help cool things down. In the past, Nathweni blanked my talk page, I think these two are just a couple of kids, but I wanted to give a few people a heads up that things are heating up with these folks, who seem determined to declare that I am acting in bad faith, which I am not. (That I am occasionally tired and snippy, I confess). I am going to try to step away from this spat and disengage, but I think someone with admin cred needs to talk to these folks. Thanks. Thank you very much. Seems that the attacks have stopped for the time being, at least! It's very rare that a single IP address will keep going on such a wide range of pages, but this is one of those exceptions where the vandal appears to have attacked via Random-page. You're welcome...and thank you for the note... Dreadstar 21:26, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

Thank you

Thank you for keeping an eye on Mare (horse). And for being more patient that I would be. I really am trying to avoid any kind of response on either the article's talk page or the talk pages of the affected parties, so please do not take my lack of response as an admission of any sort. Just a bit of my point of view here: I honestly do not know why this child has it in for me so bad, though I think this all started when I removed Image:Shetland Pony in Harness and Cart.gif which she put into the article when it really was not suitable for the topic. It also isn't a really great photo, though it is better than many others. I probably was a bit snippy about it at one point, (probably on a day when I was spending more time reverting vandalism than editing), though the edit summaries probably speak for themselves (as does the history of B'n'C's talk page here where I tried to explain myself) Please also note that I even tried to extend an olive branch back in August by giving her a welcome message here, which she has since blanked.

I have already tried to remember that I must do a better job not to bite the newcomers. Further, you will note that her photo remains in both pony and shetland pony at suitable locations. I really am simply interested in quality control. Nathweni also was so quick to label me "horrible" over at the shetland pony spat, and that basically started because he removed a photo that I agreed was poor, but without replacing it with anything better and, well, the debate I have linked. I really do not think I have been "horrible" to these people in any way, and to the extent that words come across in writing in a manner that sounds harsher than intended, I think I did already apologize for that, but it would be useful to know their precise issue. The ad hominem attack she leveled at me over Driving (horse) was ridiculous.

You must understand the amount of sheer hard work I have put into these articles. However, wiki is also a hobby for me, not my profession, so I try not to be too wedded to my own versions, though I am, of course, human. I believe that when you look over what I have done, you will see I have contributed substantive content, including three articles with GA status. (note Equine nutrition, which has been nearly all my work, and Horses in warfare, which was more of a collaborative effort with some heated discussion during the process that nonetheless resulted in an end product that was much better than when it was started). Taking mare as an example, compare before and one example of after. You can also see from history the issue with B'n'C's pony photo. The article still isn't up to a GA standard, but I can only really work on one article at a time with that level of intensity. Lest it be thought I am a control freak, see Horses in the Middle Ages, a fully collaborative effort where I was definitely a secondary contributor to the primary editor. I truly love working on wikipedia and it makes me very happy to improve both the articles and my own wiki skills. I do not need people misinterpreting my motives. 'Nuff said. Montanabw(talk) 01:56, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

Appreciate your reply. Works for me. I will confess to being a little gun shy about editing anything she has touched now. I am going to tag Makybe Diva for peacock words, just a heads up...she had an edit reverted made under the same anon IP she was using last night. Montanabw(talk) 02:18, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
All right, all right. You are right, I have just had it with the little snot. I am tired, I feel totally unappreciated, and it just seems ridiculous that I have to put up with the temper tantrums of some apparently 12 year old who won't even consider or acknowledge that I made a good faith attempt to settle things. The adults here know what we are doing and we don't need to fight with children over violations of wikipedia guidelines, she needs to read the rules and show a little more respect for the process. But it is obvious that if I am fighting with a child, I am obviously too irritable about the situation to deal with it properly at all, so I will respect your request that I re-disengage. Montanabw(talk) 05:01, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

Albus Dumbledore

Regarding your edit removing wikilink of gay and referring to Manual of Style#Quotations, it does say Unless there is a good reason to do so... and, respectfully, in this case there is good reason.. first being because the word wikilinked is the breaking news and the a main subject of that paragraph.. second, there's no other wikilinks for "gay" in the article and we are an encyclopedia that makes use of wikilinks for people to read about other interesting subjects. I ask you to return the wikilink. -- ALLSTAR ECHO 03:51, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

Dumbledore page

Is protecting a page while engaged in a content dispute really the right thing to do? (answer: no, it is not). Particularly when the content dispute is so minor. I have reverted it back down to semi-protection; you really should not be protecting pages when you've been editing them, it often gets conflated as a conflict of interest. Neil  10:29, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the note, I was a bit concerned about that too. Since my single edit had nothing to do with the edit war I was protecting the page from, and the two parties were not adequately discussing the issue, I thought it might be best to go ahead and protect it. But you're right about potential conflation, so I'll be more cautious in the future! Dreadstar 16:03, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

Link

I am sorry but I am confused about the reason why you canceled the link I posted and claimed I was spamming. The page is about a "writer" and I posted a link to a site where one of his books is available online. How is it spamming? Maybe I did not follow the rules about the procedure to post a link and if I did I am really sorry but I am new and I did not know. Is there a way I can post it again with your authorization? I am available to answer to any question you have for me. Thank you. Diegom-08 09:04, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your question. You've repeatedly added the very same link to many different articles, this violates the Wikipeida Guideline on External link spamming, specifically "Adding external links to an article or user page for the purpose of promoting a website or a product is not allowed, and is considered to be spam. Although the specific links may be allowed under some circumstances, repeatedly adding links will in most cases result in all of them being removed."
Please read through the Wikipedia rules to learn more about how to edit Wikipedia. Please do not continue adding the link to articles, it's considered spamming and will lead to your being blocked from editing Wikipedia. Dreadstar 19:08, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
I really did not mean to spam that address but I won't post it anymore. After you wrote me though I proposed it to two or three talks asking the editros whether they think it's a good link or not. Can I do that or should I delete those comments? Diegom-08 22:12, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for your understanding. Yes, I noticed your posts on the article talk pages asking about including the link in those articles, and i think that was an excellent move on your part! I wouldn't post any more, even on talk pages, until the editors there have commented or evaluated the links for inclusion. Thank you! Dreadstar 22:19, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

I suspect he will get blocked fairly soon for revert-warring as he seems to be reverting every change that anyone makes to the article (I think unintentionally) - I intend waiting until he's finished his rewrite, and then go through the page he's written (if he finishes it) and clean up the POV & OR, rather than nit-pick at it and lead someone who may not understand 3rr into inadvertently breaking it iridescent 01:58, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

0 (Kirby Series)

I described the complication with this case at WP:SPLICE. The history is on three separate pages (Dark Matter (Kirby), Dark Matter (Kirby series), 0 (Kirby Series)) so deleting the first page doesn't fix it completely. Thanks. Axem Titanium 02:40, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. Axem Titanium 03:10, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
What you did was great. Right now, I'm trying to db-move Dark Matter (Kirby series) to Dark Matter (Kirby) to fit the naming conventions within the Kirby articles. Axem Titanium 03:15, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
Sure, done. Thanks a lot. Axem Titanium 03:19, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
That looks like everything. Thanks again. Axem Titanium 03:35, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

Per your request to be notified, he's at it again. — BQZip01 — talk 02:45, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

Here is his latest: requiring citations for pictures... + and additional example (note that this is again part of an edit war). Additionally, I think his edit history and his sockpuppet(s) show a textbook case of WP:Wikistalking (he has never commented on the Midnight Yell Practice page before, but he does so mere minutes after I post a picture?). I do not intend this to be whining, but a request for assistance/following your guidance/request for additional guidance. If you don't want to get involved, I can't blame you. If so, where should I take this? Would you recommend an RfA? — BQZip01 — talk 05:11, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
