Violation of 3RR on Elvis Presley
You have violated the Wikipedia:Three-revert rule on the Elvis Presley article by making four reverts in the previous 24 hours. If you make one more revert of this material within the next 24 hours, I will have to report you to Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/3RR, and you will likely be blocked for a while.Rogue Gremlin 19:46, 31 August 2007 (UTC)
- I'm sorry? I've only made three reverts, and while those reverts were over content, I was hardly going against consensus (there were other users who have reverted that editor and attempted a dialogue with them - see User talk:Aladdin Zane), and I was reverting changes that went against policy and guidelines (particularly WP:NPOV and our manual of style). I'll link you to them. one two three. My edit summaries even show how many reverts I have made there. If you could look at the article history and point out my fourth revert, I would be happy to concede that I have made four reverts, but as it is, I would take this as a bad faith warning - it appears that you yourself have had disputes on that page.
- But to summarise, I haven't broken three revert rule as both you and User:Aladdin Zane have suggested (twice [1] [2]). My reverts were to revert changes that went against consensus where the other editor made no attempt at changing the consensus or discussing his changes (feel free to look at my three reverts to see what my changes were), and all three of his reverts (yes, that's right, we both made three reverts, yet you only "warn" me) were done, again, without discussion, and instead he made personal attacks such as "i think you need to pick up a dictionary to know the difference" and accusing me of ignorance. You suggest that you will report me to 3RR, yet one of the links above shows that I have already been "reported" to the noticeboard, and nothing will come of it as I didn't break any one policy or guideline. And you suggest that if you were to report me then I will "likely be blocked for a while", yet you must not have glanced through the page you linked to - the vast majority of 3RR blocks are for between 3 hours and 24 hours, and for someone like me who has notched up close to 5,000 edits here without receiving a single warning or block, I would suggest that if I were to be blocked for 3RR (which won't happen), it would be for a very short time indeed.
- And to summarise the summary, I take this as a bad faith warning, which I will
strike throughif no response is provided in 24 or 48 hours. And if anyone else would like to provide input on this, one way or the other, I would gladly appreciate it. :) --Dreaded Walrus t c 05:43, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
-
- I have struck through the message, due to it being bad faith, false (only three reverts had been made, not four), and when I was reported, no action was taken as a result of no violation having taken place. I gave User:Rogue Gremlin the chance to respond or explain, which has not been taken. And besides, the reverts I link above are clearly to bring the article back in line with policy, and the established talkpage consensus. --Dreaded Walrus t c 20:04, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
Damien Plessi(s)
I did note in my original edit of the LFC reserves page that it *is* Damien Plassis, and not Damien Plessi, as LFC news story reported - my source quoted in the edit was Lyon's own player profile for Plessis - see http://www.olweb.fr/index.php?pid=203002&j=1618&lng=fr)) for the source
Steve-Ho 13:09, 2 September 2007 (UTC)
- I must admit I don't look through the history of every page I edit - I came to that page when I was fixing redlinks on the List of English football transfers Summer 2007. I saw that Damien Plessi was a redlink, so I went to have a look at the Liverpool article, and saw that it was down as Damien Plessis, which is also a redlink. I figured it was a typo, so changed it to Plessi. I must say I haven't seen the original Liverpool story - I heard of his transfer via BBC News, which has him as Plessi, and a Google News search for both Plessi and Plessis currently reveal 36 reports of Plessi, and only one for Plessis. A part of me believes this may be an example of a player going by a slightly different name upon moving - Ronaldinho and Ronaldo are known largely by different names in Brazil, for example. However, the idea of the original LFC story (which I haven't read) being incorrect is also convincing, especially as he is known in Football Manager 2007 as Plessis. In all, I see you've reverted, and I have no problem with it being left like that until something more substantial comes up either way.
- One thing I feel that should be brought to your intention, which I have no doubt was accidental, is the fact that your message to my talk page, for some reason, made very sweeping changes to this page. See here for your diff. Do you know what happened there? It stumps me, really. --Dreaded Walrus t c 14:27, 2 September 2007 (UTC)
- No idea how the sweeping changes happened - *I thought* I had just added a comment. Sorry for any deletions - not intentional! In terms of Plessis - I have just looked through and agree that googlenews etc seems to show more hits with Plessi, but that may reflect other people reporting the LFC press release, and thus replicating any error my LFC. Both Lyon and UEFA (http://www.uefa.com/competitions/under19/fixturesresults/round=15066/match=300903/report=ev.html) report Plessis on various webpages, so I guess we will have to just wait and see what turns up on the squad profile for LFC Steve-Ho 13:42, 4 September 2007 (UTC)
- Exactly. The only reason I made the change in the first place was because of the BBC story which reported Plessi, but after looking through older sources (such as the Lyon, Uefa pages, and the FM2007 database), I agree that it should probably be kept as Plessis, unless when added to the LFC page it is down as Plessi. Again, apologies for the initial mix up. :) --Dreaded Walrus t c 14:16, 4 September 2007 (UTC)
- Mystery solved - LFC official messed up. He's named as a sub for a reserve match tonight and it's Plessis. See http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/drilldown/N156892070904-1313.htm Steve-Ho 20:09, 4 September 2007 (UTC)
- Excellent. I've corrected the link on the page that I originally came from, List of English football transfers Summer 2007, and left an edit summary referring to this page. I'm glad this was all cleared up. :D --Dreaded Walrus t c 20:52, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

X3 map
Hi, Dreaded Walrus. Why did you delete the url to the X3 map v1.2 by Scorp ? I mean X3: Reunion page. This program was released by Egosoft in the "X3 Reunion: Game of the Year 2007 Edition". This program is the very popular among the X-community.
Here is the discussion topic at egosoft.com forum http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=166320
Here is the sticky (watch Maps section) http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=162408
Best regards, ScorpBY.
- Hiya. I deleted it because, at first glance, the wording which accompanied the addition, which included the wording "the best program", was the typical kind of wording encountered with spammy link additions (i.e. wanting the user to click that link, and not the others), especially when coupled with the possibility that you were linking to your own map (as the map program is "by Scorp"), which is also common with spam. The first link you provide above does show it to be quite popular, yes. If you want, try adding the link to the article's talk page, along with the reason you feel it should be included, and see if someone with more knowledge of the X3 community than me agrees with you and adds it. :) --Dreaded Walrus t c 18:05, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
It seems like nobody alive there. —Preceding unsigned comment added by ScorpBY (talk • contribs) 13:27, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

It is me again :) My thread at egosoft.com has 40000+ views. http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=166320 Isn`t it enough to be included to the wiki page ?
About Cake Mania
I uploaded a screenshot about Cake Mania 2, a sequel of Cake Mania. Please don't revert me, if you do, nothing will happen, because I don't know everything about Wikipedia, maybe I did something bad. Thank you for answering my last question, you are a good person, and now I know that people can trust you. Macys123 21:43, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks. :P
- I only reverted your changes back then because they were going against our guidelines, you know? They were unencyclopedic, like game guide material. Your Cake Mania 2 screenshot is fine. It's just trying to find a place to fit it in such a short article, you know? :) --Dreaded Walrus t c 13:38, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

about the trolling comment on IL2BA's talk page
Hi, I notice you delete a comment by User:HeebieJeebies on IL2BA's talk page. Just so you know, I suspect that Cholga is operating HeebieJeebies to attack IL2BA on his talk page and the Point Isabel Regional Shoreline. HeebieJeebies said in his/her comment that IL2BA called his/her comment as "shit storm." The exact comment Cholga complained about on AN/I a while back. Can you help monitor this? Thanks. I don't want to see an editor get blocked by operating a sock. Thanks. Chris! my talk 23:06, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
- It intrigues me. I have IL2BA's talk page on my watchlist, and the edit to his talk page by HeebieJeebies came across to me like someone impersonating Cholga, or poking fun at her. "Dis beez Cholga, I iz a very poor grammer writer and I love to cause trouble, IL2BEA is an asshole, please block me im stupid sockpupper. I shit all over verything all the itmes" doesn't sound like anything Cholga would genuinely say about herself, even if trying to "cover up" for making possibly sockpuppeteer comments elsewhere. Regardless, I'll add the pages to my watchlist, possibly check up on the user's contributions occasionally, to see if that account is used for anything. --Dreaded Walrus t c 23:14, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

- I have been in discussions with both Krummy2 and FM07GOD in the past, and they have both left messages for me in the past, too. I also attempted to persuade "GOD" to change his signature, too. For the messages on my talk page, just do a ctrl+f for "krummy" in this archive, and both "krummy" and "god" in this one. I had been keeping up on events by adding your talk page to my watchlist too. Hope you don't mind. :) --Dreaded Walrus t c 12:34, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

- If you wish to amuse yourself, you may want to keep an eye on CadillacDTS (talk • contribs • logs), whose account was created immediately after EthanolRules (talk • contribs • logs) was given a 7-day block after your report to AIV. Same edit pattern, pretty clearly the same person. I left him alone because I was tired of trolls/socks and their drama, and because he was more or less behaving himself. He's grown more bold today. He's previously been blocked for editing as BiodieselRocks (talk • contribs • logs) during a block on his main account. I believe he's similar on a much smaller scale to MascotGuy, who's probably the most notorious example of this kind of editor. Acroterion (talk) 17:23, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

"England" -v- "United Kingdom dispute on American Express with User:Darkieboy236
Hello, It's me again: your friendly, neighbourhood newbie! Can you give me some assistance please. The User Darkieboy236 appeared obsessed with replacing all references to "England" so that it reads "England, United Kingdom" or simply "United Kingdom". Now, I have no real beef with this in talk boxes, etc, but in article text it is too fussy. My request for help / advice is that I do not wish to revert the American Express article again as an revert-war would do nobody much good. So what is the process I must now follow? I have flagged it up on the user's talk page but agreement can't be reached. What is the process for obtaining wider community opinion? I've looked around but everything I can find appears very heavy handed and I don't wish to dispute Darkieboy236's motives.
In summary, the dispute resolves around the use of the word "England" or "United Kingdom". I believe it is wrong to say in article text that a company is based in "Brighton, England, United Kingdom". Such phraseology is too fussy and unhelpful to read. Likewise to say "Brighton, United Kingdom" is just simply wrong as it widens the geographic area. Has this issue been resolved on WP already? If so are you able to point me to WP policy? If not, can you help me work out how to seek community / third party consensus. 87.127.44.154 14:01, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
- Well. The best thing to do would be to discuss the edits on the article's talk page. I currently see no discussion on there at all. There is discussion on User talk:Darkieboy236, but that's not the best way to solve these issues. I personally tend to feel that discussion about any particular single article should be kept on the article's talk page. As it happens, Darkieboy236 seems to be blocked at the moment for violating WP:3RR, which should give ample time for either you or User:Abtract to bring this up on the talk page. There are likely to be more people with American Express on their s than those with User:Darkieboy236 added.
- I don't have much preference either way with regards to "Brighton, England" vs "Brighton, UK", though I would be quite heavily against "Brighton, England, UK", or Edinburgh, Scotland, UK, just as I would have been against reading "Belgrade, Serbia, Serbia and Montenegro" a couple of years back. "Belgrade, Serbia" would be fine by me, as would "Belgrade, Serbia and Montenegro". But to use the long form with all of them just sounds wrong.
- I would suggest that if, when DB236 comes back from his ban, he reverts again without discussion, then just leave it at that for a while, and attempt to guide him to the discussion on the article's talk page (which obviously doesn't exist just yet). That way, you can show that you are attempting to work towards a consensus on the issue.
- With regards to what policy says on the issue, I can't find anything specific after a quick search, though WP:MOS#Identity is probably closest to this. Beyond that, perhaps Wikipedia:WikiProject England may be of help? You may wish to bring the topic up on the talk page to gain wider consensus (ask them to go to the main section on the American Express talk page, to keep everything in one place). You may also want to do the same at Wikipedia talk:UK Wikipedians' notice board, as the chances are the topic may have been brought up in the past.
- I'm sorry I took so long to reply, and I hope this helps. Feel free to ask for more help if needed, or if the subject doesn't become resolved. :) --Dreaded Walrus t c 23:53, 19 September 2007 (UTC)

Concerning your edits at {{refimprove}} there might be bug in the TFD template, since all I did was subst it. I am not a technical person, but this might be the bug being discussed here. --W.marsh 00:31, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks! I'd seen that issue once or twice before, with that template too, I think, and I wasn't certain what the issue was. I would have looked on the template's talk page, but it appears that the name of the template isn't provided in the substed code, unlike with, say, the user warning templates. Thinking about it now though, I should have probably just guessed. ;) Thanks for pointing me there though. :) --Dreaded Walrus t c 00:35, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

I really thought I was doing the correct thing with that I.P.'s talk page. Guess I was wrong, sorry! I should really brush up on policy before heading in on my high horse, hehe. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, friend! Sorry again :-) ScarianTalk 19:29, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
- Hey, no problem! I didn't have any malicious intent towards either you or the admin on the page (User talk:72.197.190.17 for any future interested people), so I'm sorry if it seemed like I was having a go at you. Indeed, a bit of me still worries that I'm wrong, and both of you are right, especially as User:Bobo192 is an admin. Still, again, sorry if I came across a bit aggressive or whatever, it was really unintentional. Hope to see you around. :) --Dreaded Walrus t c 22:54, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
- [4] Have you read that? :-| ScarianTalk 09:41, 22 September 2007 (UTC)
- Yep... Obviously I don't agree with him, being English myself. I find most aggressive forms of discrimination and stereotyping quite offensive, particularly the text and final userbox seen here. I figured it's best to just let him say what he wants (even though that's not what a user talk page, or a userpage, is about), as I don't really have any intention of starting an edit war with the user over things. Regardless, I've tried to help him in every way I can, even going so far as to nominate his talk page for deletion on his behalf (see Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/User talk:72.197.190.17), as unregistered users cannot create pages, even though I feel the page will quite probably be kept in the end. If you haven't been keeping up with things, you may be interested in having a look through the history of his talk page between now and your last edit to it, as there have been a lot of removals, additions, and re-removals since then that kind of tell a story. Anyway, having an American girlfriend who is currently back in America sure does mess with my body clock a lot, so I'm going to sleep now. See you later, mate. :P --Dreaded Walrus t c 09:54, 22 September 2007 (UTC)

Pinkerton Academy
Whoops, I missed the redirect for "soccer." Good catch.
Having gone to Pinkerton myself, the first thought that went through my mind upon reading it was that as soon as someone who currently attends the school saw that, it was going to be defaced with "U Ideot all footbal iz American" or something like that. (Then they'd probably change "Derry, NH" to "Hell" and change the homepage to something porn-related.) I thought I'd head that off at the pass. :-)
Despite that, and despite my own American-ness, I do agree that Wikipedia shouldn't be US-centric and I do my best not to make it such.

- We don't have a specific single page of rules, but you may be interested in starting with our guidelines and policies page? If there is a specific rule or guideline, or someone has said you have broken our guidelines with a certain action, perhaps that would help me to find a more specific page for you? :) --Dreaded Walrus t c 23:00, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

- Me, breaking rules, not a chance DW, not a chance, I am just currently in a minor debate over at www.twcenter.net/wiki/ about users creating pages about themselves, it should adopt the rules of Wikipedia proper should it not? Thank you for guidelines and policies Magnus 09:59, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
-
-
- The pages you'll be wanting are probably WP:AUTO and WP:BIO. The first one is our guidelines regarding people (or companies, e.t.c.) writing articles about themselves, the second one is our notability guidelines for people, under which articles can be deleted. Every day, many people create new articles, and many of those are about themselves, their friends, their band, the company they work for, and so on, and many of them are deleted because of that. It's very rare that an article obviously about someone who is blatantly not notable stays around for more than a day. Try showing your friend the guidelines we have over here at Wikipedia, and see if they want to adopt similar things there. If I was a member there, and I was well-known in the community, surely someone else would deem it necessary to create an article about me, rather than me create one about myself. :) --Dreaded Walrus t c 16:08, 21 September 2007 (UTC)

Response.
Sorry, I had falsely assumed that most articles written in English were of American spelling. I hadn't really thought about it when I was editing, you see my browser automatically puts red jagged lines under any "mis-spelled" words like in a Word document. The British and Canadian spellings came up as being mis-spelled so I had semi-absentmindedly corrected them. Thank you for informing me of this. MasterEditorDXK 03:53, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
