[edit] Early and Current Life

Andrew Mortellaro was born April 11, 1992 in Lutz, Florida. He lived most of his childhood in Lutz, attending school at Maniscalco Elementary School. Many lifelong friends were made there. After graduating from fifth grade, Andrew attended Liberty Middle School, located in New Tampa. He performed well in school, made new friends, and pursued his interests in drumming by being active in the school's band, jazz band, and drumline. In his eighth grade year, Andrew was nominated as second-chair percussionist in Florida's All-State Honor Band. He performed in front of a live audience in Tampa, Florida's convention center. Throughout middle school Andrew recieved straight A's, was a well-behaved student, and enjoyed socializing with the friends he had made.

In 2006, Andrew graduated from middle school and enrolled at Freedom High School, located also in New Tampa, adjacent to Liberty Middle School. His freshmen year was satisfactory; he maintained straight A's as well as took AP Human Geography, the first of several AP courses he would be taking throughout his high school career. He participated in the Freedom High School marching band, which he enjoyed thoroughly. He played first bass drum in the drumline, which was the smallest one. Andrew was an active member of the Freshmen Class Club, and Mu Alpha Theta, the math club. After the school year ended, Andrew recieved his permit to begin the process of being a driver. However, he has not had much practice.

Andrew entered his sophomore year with a refined outlook on his goals and what he had to do to achieve them. He enrolled into two AP classes: Biology and World History, and remained in other honors classes. He continued to participate in the marching band, which recieved a Superior rating at the FBA marching festival. This year, however, Andrew had been promoted to snare drum, a much more desired percussion instrument to play in the band. Andrew enjoyed football season, but by no means what this enjoyment a result of his school's football team. The Patriots during the year of 2007-2008 had a record of 1-9. The Middleton coach ruined our chances of a perfect (losing) season. Andrew looks forward to a better year for the Patriot's football team.

Andrew, during his sophomore year became invloved in the Sophomore Class Club, Beta Club, and Mu Alpha Theta. He has been elected sophomore class secretary after reciting his ever famous slogan: "vote for drew, it's the right thing to do!" He currently tutors students for Beta and Mu Alpha Theta. Also, Andrew has participated in numerous math competitions for mu alpha theta, all of which he has recieved low scores on. He hopes to perform better in the futue, possibly at states.

For lack of being involved in a school athletic program, and a desire to be "in shape", Andrew Mortellaro joined the school's track and feild team as a long-distance runner. At first the practices were rigorous and demanding. But with practice, Andrew adapted. He has been running the mile event at track meets. In fact, these are his times: 6.20, 6.10, 5.58, 6.04. Although these times are not particularly impressive, Andrew prides himself in the fact that he is improving. His world history teacher, one of the coaches for the track team, bestowed Andrew with the name "Mortey" So, if one ever hears someone yelling, "Run Mortey, RUN!" it is probably Andrew's world history teacher trying to inspire him. His teacher frequently embarrasses Andrew in front of the class by clapping for him for his mile times (which I stress are not impressive). Nevertheless, Mortey finds humor in these occurrences.

Andrew plans to attend the University of Florida for his undergraduate. He plans to study architectural, biomedical engineering, or mathematics. Andrew also hopes to become a member of Florida's drumline. His plans after college are uncertain, but Andrew intends to be a successful individual. Andrew lives by the doctrine: Live life as to the fullest; seize the day.

Andrew's favorite quote is "In the end, it will all be ok. If it's not ok, then it's not the end!"

Andrew is a committed follower to the popular television show Lost. For Andrew, watching Lost is one of the most exciting things to do. And yes, he spends valuable time reading blogs about what the latest news is on the show. He is a "Lost nerd". He also is a fan of Alias, The Simpsons, Jeopardy, The Office, and That 70's Show.

Among many of his favorite movies are Twelve Monkeys, Contact, Lord of the Rings, and Star Wars.

[edit] Literature

Andrew considers Kurt Vonnegut to be the most influential writer of his time. He enjoyed many of his books: The Sirens of Titan, Breakfast of Champions, Slaughter-house 5, and Cat's Cradle, to name a few. Andrew also is a fan of J.R.R. Tolkien, and has read the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Three attempts have been made by Andrew to read Tolkien's The Silmarillion. Andrew enjoys dystopian novels, such as Brave New World and Island, written by Aldous Huxley, the Nostradamus of the twentieth century.

[edit] Music

Led Zeppelin and Rush are the two bands havng the most impact on Andrew's life. Not only does he have a admiration for the drummers of both bands, but Andrew also enjoys the lyrical messages conveyed in their music and the complexity of their sound. In addition to these bands, Andrew listens to a wide variety of Rock and Alternative; varying from Underoath to Augustana, and Matchbox Twenty to Blink 182. The music Andrew listens to fuels his desire to be a better drummer; he draws much of his technique from these groups.
