Lieutenant-Colonel Hammond is the first Commanding Officer of the Canadian Special Operations Regiment, which is being established in Petawawa, Ontario. Before this posting he worked in National Defence Headquarters (NDHQ) as Chief of Staff Transformation in the Canadian Special Operations Command, as J3 Counter-Terrorism and Special Operations and as an analyst on NATO and Arms Control issues. He was seconded to the Privy Council Office in 2004-2005 as a member of the Canada-United States Secretariat. He also has a degree in International Affairs.

[edit] Previous military experience
Before his posting to CSOR he worked in the National Defence Headquarters (NDHQ) as Chief of Staff Transformation in the Canadian Special Operations Command, as J3 Counter-Terrorism and Special Operations and as an analyst on NATO and Arms Control issues.[1]
[edit] Operational experience
Hammond has had operational experience in Afghanistan as a Task Force Commander and in Bosnia as the Operations Officer of a Multi-national Division. Before that he served with Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry, the Royal Green Jackets, Second King Edward the VIIth Own Goorkhas (the Sirmoor Rifles), the Canadian Airborne Regiment and Joint Task Force 2.[1]

He has a Master’s degree in International Affairs and has taught Political Science at Carleton University where he is a Doctoral Candidate. He is married and has three children.[1]
