It isn't accurate to call this building a "castle" since castles serve a predominately defensive purpose, whereas this structure was used purely as a residence. The correct translation would be "Dresden Palace" or the official title of "Dresden Royal Palace". Dross2 12:52, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

This isn't quite true: there are many examples in English of non-defensible castles. Castle Howard is a famous one. English usage of castle, palace and house is highly random.--Hegertor 22:48, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

That may be so, but if the owners of the building have decided that the English-language name is "Dresden Royal Palace", who are we to change it to "Dresden Castle"? Dross2 13:20, 29 September 2007 (UTC)

Just so everyone is clear, the official German title for this castle is Residenzschloss, the translation of which is apparently (see above) debated. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.170.217.239 (talk) 03:09, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
