The sicklefishes are perciform fishes of the genus Drepane, the only genus in the family Drepaneidae. They are found in the Indian and western Pacific Oceans, and in the eastern Atlantic near Africa. (The name "Drepanidae" has been used in the past, but a family of hook-tip moths has priority.)
[edit] Species
- African sicklefish, Drepane africana Osório, 1892.
- Concertina fish, Drepane longimana (Bloch & Schneider, 1801).
- Spotted sicklefish, Drepane punctata Linnaeus, 1758.
[edit] Taxonomic note
There are three described species, but the distinction between D. longimana and D. punctata is based on colour, not morphology, so they may be synonyms.
