[edit] Plot

On a tip, Mulder and Scully visit the infamous Area 51, where a strange event swaps the personalities of Mulder and a shadowy government agent named Morris Fletcher. Although Scully and everyone else sees Mulder, inside he is really Fletcher, and vice versa. When Mulder begins exhibiting strange characteristics which include cooperation with Assistant Director Kersh and sexual provocation, Mulder must cope with his new life in which he has a nuclear family with a troubled marriage and two teenage kids. Mulder works to convince Scully of his true identity, while Fletcher plots to destroy Mulder and his work.

[edit] Notes

  • This was the only two part episode of the X-Files not directly related to the myth-arc of the show.
  • Although Morris Fletcher smokes cigarettes, he doesn't smoke at all while his body is inhabited by Mulder. Later, in the conclusion to this episode, Dreamland II, the first thing Morris does when he and Mulder switch back is reach for a cigarette.
  • The Marx brothers dance routine from the movie Duck Soup, is acted out hillariously by Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Morris Fletcher (Michael McKean).
  • Morris Fletcher makes a cameo appearance in the quarter-final episode of Season Six, Three Of A Kind.
