[edit] Plot
Jack Miller (Daniel Gillies), an American lawyer working in Tokyo, has fallen in love with Yuri (Yoshino Kimura), the wife of his most valued client, Eiji (Ryo Ishibashi). Despite Jack's deep-rooted fear of the sea (an incident that resulted in his brother Sean's death), he reluctantly accepts Eiji's invitation to join the couple for a day trip on the Tokyo Bay. Pleasure turns to terror as they discover the watery destiny in store for each of them. Eji killed his first wife, an emotionally unstable rich woman, to marry Yuri. Eji is killed, and when the evil spirit attempts to drag Yuri to a watery grave, the spirit of Jack's brother (Ethan Amis) saves them. The story ends with Jack, now married to Yuri, sending a photo of him and his brother into the water, finally letting go of his past.
[edit] Similarities to Twilight Zone Episode
The plot of this episode closely mirrors that of a classic Twilight Zone episode titled "Passage on the Lady Anne". Though it is actually based on a short story of the same name written by Koji Suzuki (writer of Ring and Rasen) featured in the anthology book "Dark Water".
[edit] Details
Dream Cruise was filmed in Japan with a Japanese crew and mostly Japanese cast. It was filmed as a full length 90+ minute movie that was shortened to 60 minutes for its airing on Showtime. For its DVD release, it is restored to its full running time though the DVD box erroneously states it remains at 60 minutes.
