Founding of the University
Akamai University was founded on the Island of Hawaii in 2002 as a progressive distance-learning university dedicated to the advancement of the human community and sustainability of the planet. The founders were committed to superior quality education, research and community service. Akamai is established as an international nonprofit organization which has achieved USA federal and State of Hawaii tax-exempt status. We strive for a world filled with greater peace, balance, cooperation, and the promise of an evolved human fellowship. These are noble foundation stones upon which to establish the fundamentals of sustainable human culture. They are spiritual principles that demand a worthy mission, and although the tasks and goals before us seem immense, we believe they are attainable with deeper understanding of the problems and solutions, and the full commitment and participation of the global community.
Founding Mission of the University
The founding mission of Akamai University is based in the premise that amelioration of major world problems and the creation of sustainable lifestyles and global practices are the hallmarks of responsible individual and corporate world citizenship. As generators of new knowledge and developers of new systems, our sole mission as an institution is the advancement of the human condition and sustainability of the planet. The primary academic mission of the University is to provide mature adults with the opportunity to pursue life-long learning in an environment that supports flexible and individualized studies. Akamai University is committed to the design and use of appropriate cutting edge information, models, textual materials, and technological applications for delivery of quality degree programs, research, training, and distance-learning experiences. Akamai University understands and supports the need for research on all fronts of the human experience, from the arts and humanities, religious and spiritual arenas of ideas, to the concrete world of hard political and business decisions. The scope of research should reach from the realm of public health and disease control to the recognition of the whole person in the healing process and from the study of the depth of human psyche to the community as an incubator of social and psychological health. Our research scope also spans the essential areas of environmental and life science. Through quality in research, Akamai hopes to encourage the development of new systems addressing the need for each world citizen to acquire the knowledge and empowerment to foster change in their world. Akamai University’s research mission and philosophy is to create and organize new knowledge and systems toward the amelioration of major world problems, improvement of the human community, and sustainability of our planet. Akamai was established as a nonprofit corporation and degree granting institution by school charter on 30 May 2002. The Akamai University charter permits the school to “provide superior quality seminars and degree programs, conduct meaningful scholarly research, and establish and manage demonstration projects worldwide by virtual and traditional means”. Akamai University admits students and faculty of any race, creed, color, national and ethnic origin to all of the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, creed, color, national and ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs, and other school-administered programs.

Our degrees are fully authentic and structured to be equivalent to degrees awarded by reputable institutions worldwide.

Before undertaking any program of studies in higher education or training, Akamai University strongly advises interested applicants to consult with licensing authorities, professional associations, colleges and universities, and prospective employers to determine with clarity if the degree program will meet their professional requirements.
Akamai University is not accredited by an accrediting agency or association recognized by the US Department of Education. Please note that in the United States, many licensing authorities require accredited degrees as the basis for eligibility for licensing. In some cases, accredited colleges may not accept transfer courses and degrees completed at unaccredited colleges, and some employers may require an accredited degree as a basis for eligibility for employment. Also, certain states and countries may not allow use of the Ph.D. designation from unaccredited schools.
International Degree Validation
Graduates of Akamai University can now have their degrees validated by submission to the University Consortium of Central America. Member colleges of the University Consortium recognize Akamai University in a "twinned" relationship. All credits and degrees earned by Akamai University students will be accepted in transfer for matching awards with internationally accredited institutions that are members of the Consortium.

To be admitted to the faculty at Akamai University, faculty members must meet rigorous professional and academic standards. Most have earned doctorates at recognized and accredited institutions and have extensive experience in their areas of concentration. Certain outstanding individuals who are recognized experts in their professional field are accepted to the faculty with less than a recognized doctoral degree. Akamai University conducts its education programs via mentored virtual learning and support seminars in an individualized and self-paced manner, consistent with our student's personal and professional interests. Nonprofit Stewardship for Closed Institutions
As a nonprofit organization, Akamai accepts its responsibility to assist disabled educational organizations sustain its archival faculty and student records. In 2004, Akamai was approached by the Custodian of Records for Greenwich University and the International Institute for Advance Studies (IIAS), at that time, both closed institutions. A written agreement was established between Akamai University and CEEMS (Center for Environmental and Energy Medicine Studies), the Custodian of Records of the closed institutions. Akamai then acted to salvage the stored records for these institutions. The nature of the agreement provides for stewardship services only and there is no employment, partnership, or agency relationship between Akamai University and Greenwich University or IIAS. The agreement between CEEMS and Akamai University is not a transfer of authority, ownership, or organizational responsibility between Akamai University and Greenwich University. Students and alumni of the closed institutions are directed to contact Akamai University, as the Records Steward, to request degree verifications and transcripts of record.
