[edit] European CE mark
When i was reading about condoms, i came across this topic. It is nothing but an European standard for condom quality. This is very important for anyone who wants to travel to europe. Because it is not safe to use NOVELTY condoms. Ethicalstar 12:10, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] UClaim.com
UClaim.com is an insurance claim advice and help website for consumers and their advocates including lawyers and public adjusters. It has free information and emphasizes high quality insurance claim advice documents for sale.
Currently the best free information feature consists of free copies of over 60 insurance policies from many insurers which are not (as of December 2007) available on the internet. This is most important to disaster victims because insurers resist and delay giving out the policy booklets after a claim is reported. Just try to obtain a copy of an Allstate Homeowners Insurance Policy using a Google search or at Allstate's Website. You will only be led to pages selling insurance.
UClaim.com also rates insurance companies and their vendors based on how well they pay claims, not how cheap the premium is. The ratings are by consumers who have actually had claims. The ratings are also on insurers individual adjusters, attorneys, "insurer preferred" body shops and contractors. The ratings are "searchable", so for example if you don't like your poorly rated State Farm adjuster in Fresno, California, you can search for a State Farm adjuster in Fresno with a good rating, and request a new adjuster.
The author of UClaim, Ron Cercone, is one of the most knowledgeable and consumer friendly experts on auto, home and business property insurance claims in the USA.

[edit] Len Rossi
Len Rossi born in Utica, New York to Italian immigrant parents. He found his interest in athletics and wrestling at the local YMCA. In 1950, Len Rositano became Len Rossi and he joined the ranks of professional wrestling. He had his first professional wrestling match while working for Ed Don George in Saratoga, New York. During the 1950s, Len traveled the roads of the wrestling territories including Boston, Spokane, Salt Lake City, Chicago, Texas, North Carolina, Florida and Oklahoma. In 1958, on what was to be a two week stop over in Tennessee turned into nearly two decades of popularity that has not been matched by many in professional wrestling. Working mostly for the Southeastern territory of the NWA and for promoter Nick Gulas, Rossi became multi time NWA World Tag Team Champion with a host of partners. Those partners included, Tex Riley, Jackie Fargo, Mario Milano, Bearcat Brown, Tamaya Soto, Johnny Walker, Dennis Hall and Don Carson. He also held the NWA Southern Tag Team Championship on several occasions. His singles career had high moments as well, Rossi held the NWA Southern Jr. Heavyweight Championship 7 times and was NWA Mid-American Heavyweight Champion. While working the majority of his career in the United States, he did tour Japan on a few occasions. Rossi faced several NWA World Heavyweight Champions throughout the years including Lou Thesz, Pat O’Connor and “Nature Boy” Buddy Rogers and holds a victory over “Classy” Freddie Blassie. Rossie developed a much respected reputation in the industry for his wrestling ability and professionalism. Len’s son, the late Joey Rossi followed his father in the professional ranks. The two wrestled in several father/son tag matches, most notably against Angelo and Lanny Poffo. Joey passed away in 2003 after a battle with lung cancer. You can travel on the Joe Rossi Memorial Highway in his hometown of Nolensville, Tennessee. In late 1972, Len was involved in an automobile accident that led to his in ring retirement from professional wrestling. As a result of this accident, Len studied natural healing and after a four year period of studying received his Doctor of Naturopathy degree. Today he owns and operates Len Rossi's Health Foods and Care Center in Brentwood, Tennessee. Len Rossi was inducted into the Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2004 in his home state of New York. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Par5sn2 (talk • contribs) 02:10, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
- Hi, and Welcome to Wikipedia! :) In order to create an article about that person, you'll need to be able to assert notability per Wikipedia's notability guidelines on biographies, which will mean utilizing reliable secondary sources, like newspaper articles. Given that he's a Hall of Famer, that shouldn't present too much difficulty. :) An article of this sort would also be covered by Wikipedia's guidelines on "biographies of living persons", which in part urges editors to be extremely careful not to include any information that isn't sourced, even if it's true, and also reminds us that biographies particularly must be written from a neutral point of view.
- You'll also want to be careful to be sure every sentence is written in your own words. For instance, I see that at least one sentence in the above (beginning "As a result of this accident") is directly reproducing text from this website. This contravenes Wikipedia's policies on copyright. Websites and printed documents can and should be used as sources, but we can't take text directly from them.

[edit] After Evangeline
Henry Longfellow wote many many years ago, the sad and moving story of the expulsion of the French Acadians of the Annapolis Valley, Nova Scoltia.(1755) I am now age 76 and have spent thirty years of research into the minute details of what happened AFTER the expulsion.
I have created a manuscript history of a storyy never before written. I used only source documents from at least 200 libraries all over New England and Nova Sctia's Public Archives as well, given lectures, written many articles. I( am mighty proud of what I have done, but the key issue for Wikipedians is to relay the family names of at least 100 New England families who represented 6000 people to go to the farms and lands that were virtually stolen by the English, and to stay there to this day. My ancestor was one of them and came from Bostons South Shore 1755. I know how important root stories are. If I write authenticate information that so many others all over the US can find their family struggles, it could be entertaining and informative. I am building a scholarship program at Bowdoin College to help US and Nova Scotian students expand their liberal education.
My concept of couse cannot be to submit 400 pages of Nova Scotian history! But couldnt there be a way to present a brief little article about the project? This is not a marketing ploy on my part as I have no interest in fund raising. I feel the editors might help me devise something useful for Wikipedia, and I neeed very much your help and direction.
Respect fully (Museumman1 (talk) 12:05, 6 December 2007 (UTC))
- Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. It sounds like a fascinating project. :) Whether or not Wikipedia is a proper host for an article about it depends on whether or not other credible news sources have already discussed it. As an encyclopedia, Wikipedia is a compendium of published information; it does not host original material. (See the relevant section of "What Wikipedia is not" for more on this.) We have developed a set of guidelines, to be found here, to help determine whether material is appropriate for Wikipedia or not. In general, "[a] topic is presumed to be notable if it has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." (For definitions of how Wikipedia means those terms, we have our verifiability policy and a supporting guideline on defining reliable sources). As our no original research policy indicates, Wikipedia is not a proper forum for disseminating unpublished information.
- If reliable sources—sources with a reputation for editorial oversight, like newspapers, journals or televised news broadcasts—have covered your project, an article might be appropriate. I would recommend that you read our conflict of interest guideline before creating the article. It's not impossible to write an article about a subject with which you are closely associated, but it does present additional challenges in remaining neutral and ensuring that you do not include facts that are not verifiable in published sources. And, as you recognize, you'll want to be careful to avoid promotion.
- If you've determined that the project meets the notability guideline and have assembled sources to support that, Help:Starting a new page should give you all the guidance you need, but you might also look at Wikipedia:Your first article and Wikipedia:How to write a great article. Please consider taking a tour through the Wikipedia:Tutorial so that you know how to properly format the article before creation. [edit] Maverick Menthol (cigarette)
I'm just curious to know a little bit of history behind the Maverick company (or the company that manufactures the cigarette) and what it really is. I normally turn to Wikipedia for all my answers and Wikipedia normally does; but not for this particular subject. I've never created an article before and in this particular area, I am not qualified. I hope that someone out there can work with me to both get me some general information and at the same time create/help create an article so that others may learn as well.
Thanks,

- Hello, Stephen, and welcome to Wikipedia. You may find what you're looking for at Lorillard Tobacco Company. :) Wikipedia's search engines are not as intuitive as I sometimes wish. If an article comes up as empty, as "Maverick cigarette" did, you can sometimes look below the text telling you there's no such article to find something related. In this case, Lorillard was the first hit. If that article does not satisfy your curiosity, you can ask questions at the article's talk page, Talk:Lorillard Tobacco Company. I'll warn you that unless the article is actively monitored, your question may go unanswered. :) In that case, the folks at the reference desk may be your best shot. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 12:50, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Oh, Hush!
Oh, Hush! are a 4 piece rock band from California.
They are unsigned and are currently using Myspace as a means of spreading their popularity. They have 5 songs on their profile; one of which is a cover of the song Sleigh Ride. The songs are of different styles, a sign that the band is still experimenting with different sounds for their music.
On their Myspace page, they have been doing numerous activities to get their fans more involved with the band. Most recently they set up a Karaoke contest for their song 'Going Down In Style' which has enabled fans to send in videos of themselves singing the song. They will announce the winner on Sunday 3rd December 2007.
They are unlike many bands who try to promote themselves on Myspace because they take an active role in responding to fans' comments and messages, as well as making competitions and enabling people to download their songs. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bagelfish (talk • contribs) 15:32, 8 December 2007
- Hello, Bagelfish, and welcome to Wikipedia. :) I don't see an assertion of notability in your description that would meet the requirements set out at WP:MUSIC. If one of those criteria is not asserted in the article, it's likely to be tagged for speedy deletion. If you can assert one or more of those criteria--for example, if Oh, Hush! has had extensive media coverage--you should also provide verification by way of sourcing. Verification is necessary to keep the band's article from being tagged for other steps in the deletion process.
- If you are able to assemble necessary sources to assert notability by the music guideline, you may certainly create such an article, although if you are closely associated with the subject, you should read our conflict of interest guideline first. It's not impossible to create an article about a subject with which you're involved, but you'd want to be scrupulously careful to approach it neutrally and without undue promotion.

- Hi, Scj2232. If it's used worldwide, I would imagine it would be a valid page. :) The question is whether you can assemble reliable sources to verify how widespread its usage is, as that would certainly demonstrate its notability.
- In general, you'd want to find sources that are reputable, like industry publications in magazines or online (avoiding blogs and personal websites, for instance). I see on a quick google glance that there's a Geofoam research center at Syracuse University. There might be some usable information there. (You probably know this, but I'll note that per Wikipedia's copyright policies, we can't take sentences directly from other sources, but we certainly can and should use them as a basis for our own, with proper citations.) A few other sources I saw on that quick glance that might be usable or lead you to something that is include the EPA and this review.

- An interesting set of references. Linking to Wikipedia articles, not to mention self-linking to this posting, really doesn't meet the criteria for reliable sources. Nor do any of the other links - there is no newspaper or magazine article, for example. If this organization has never been in the news, why would people care if it's in Wikipedia or not? -- John Broughton (♫♫) 13:03, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
- (edit conflict)Hello, Sreejiagriman, and welcome to Wikipedia. Looking at the above, I see some issues with your links. We don't pipe links to other Wikipedia articles in this way, but list them in a "see also" section. You can read more about those here. Those cannot be used as secondary sources in your article, but generally they may lead you to secondary sources that you can use in their own reference section. "tubious.com" is a reference back to Wikipedia and also cannot be used. Likewise "wiki.answers" is not a reliable source by Wikipedia's definition. You should not use that or incorporate material from that in your article.
- I don't know what this source is, though it seems from its title string to be Wikipedia referential also. If that's the case, then all that you have left is primary sourcing from the organization itself. These can't be used to verify the notability of an organization. Can you find other sources to demonstrate that this organization is of encyclopedic significance? Newspaper articles or references in magazines can be very helpful in this regard. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 13:13, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Lawrence D. Cohen, Mayor, St Paul, Minnesota
While doing an edit on an entry for a mayor of St Paul, James Scheibel, I noted that an earlier mayor, "Lawrence D Cohen" does not have an entry. There is a stub on the American screenwriter who has the same name but nothing on the American politician and former judge. While I do not know Judge Cohen, I did live in St Paul during his administration and would be pleased to write a short stub briefly identifying him and his status as mayor, 1972-76, as county commissioner, 1970-72, and then as a state judge, 1990-2008. My info would come from the state office of the Minnesota Courts.

- Hello, LAWinans. Welcome to Wikipedia. I'm glad you decided to join the rest of us idiots. ;) (I always glance at userpages to see if the "welcome" bit is appropriate. :D)
- Short stub should be plenty appropriate as long as there are good sources to verify his notability (note the special section on politicians there, in case that can offer any guidance). Given his date range, I'm presuming he'll also be covered by the guidelines on biographies of living persons, which means being particularly careful with sourcing & neutrality. Even if you know the man personally, you can't give any information on him that isn't in print. :) Without trawling through your contributions, I don't know if you've ever encountered a disambiguation situation before, but that link should give you what you need if you haven't. If the existing Lawrence D. Cohen seems more notable than Lawrence D. Cohen (politician), you might do a disambiguation link at the top of the page pointing to your politician. If the screenwriter is not more notable, you might move the screenwriter to Lawrence D. Cohen (screenwriter) and create a disambiguation page. (In that case, please be careful to check "what links here" so that you can redirect links to the screenwriter to the new page.) I imagine you're already well aware of Wikipedia's copyright policies and will rephrase your sources in your own words, but in the interest of giving all the input I can think of, I'll mention it anyway. :)

[edit] Zydeco Websites
The Zydeco Historical Preservation Society has a website called ZydecoOnline.com which reports Zydeco News and stories. It also is a repository for Zydeco Websites. I noticed there was no section dedicated specifically to Zydeco Websites. What would we need to do to help create a list of websites?
Zydecoonline (talk) 15:55, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
- Well, you'd start with familiarizing yourself with the guideline at "External Links". This will give you an idea of what sort of ELs are regarded as acceptable, what isn't and what's questionable. :) After that, you would simply add an "external links" section to the main article at Zydeco as set out at Wikipedia's guide to layout. You want to be careful not to overdo it, though. As the EL guideline says, "Wikipedia's purpose is not to include a comprehensive list of external links related to each topic." You also may run into some challenges given that your username matches the name of the website. This is problematic with regards to our username policy, particularly if you appear to be promoting the entity whose name you carry. You'll read more about this in the EL guideline. (You might also want to read the conflict of interest guideline. Given the username policy, as you have not made any other edits with this username, you might find it preferable to register a new account that will not contribute to an appearance of promotion. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 17:38, 15 December 2007 (UTC)

If the former, you could face a challenge if you can't determine for sure what the term means. Wikipedia has a guideline that addresses the inadvisability of creating articles on neologisms, here. Wiktionary might well benefit from a definition of the term. :) If you feel you can find enough sourcing to substantiate the notability of the term, you might take a look at the policy on dictionary definitions in Wikipedia to see how to create an article that will meet requirements. - Hi, and Welcome to Wikipedia! :) In order to create an article about that person, you'll need to be able to assert notability per Wikipedia's notability guidelines on biographies, which will mean utilizing reliable secondary sources, like newspaper articles. An article of this sort would be covered by Wikipedia's guidelines on "biographies of living persons", which in part urges editors to be extremely careful not to include any information that isn't sourced, even if it's true, and also reminds us that biographies particularly must be written from a neutral point of view. Looking at the above, I'm not sure if you're going to be able to find sufficient sourcing. Articles that don't satisfy the notability guideline are likely to be deleted.
- If you are able to assemble necessary sources and if your subject meets the notability requirements at WP:BIO, you may choose to create the article yourself, although given your username it seems likely that you are closely associated with the subject and should carefully read our conflict of interest guideline and our guideline on autobiography for suggestions.

[edit] Word definition: Gewgaw
I expect this article to merely be a stub. A gewgaw is a small, mostly useless, decorative object, like a trinket or knick-knack. I could not find a category for simply a word definition, but I suppose it would best fit in the category of colloquial or slang.70.161.30.51 (talk) 02:24, 21 December 2007 (UTC)
- Our sister project, Wictionary, has a listing for the word Gewgaw. Being an encyclopedia, Wikipedia requires that a subject have the potential to write an article about rather than a simple definition. Cheers! —Elipongo (Talk contribs) 03:52, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Violet Needham
Popular 20th century British children's writer, her books include the Ruritarian "Empire" series beginning with "The Black Riders". She did not begin to publish until the 1940s, by which time she was in her 60s, although she seems to have begun writing some of her stories much earlier. In "The Black Riders", Dick, a young orphan, joins the underground "Confederates", led by "Far Away Moses" (both Dick and Far Away Moses turn out to be aristocrats) who are attempting to bring about political reform. They are hunted by Count Jasper, known as Jasper the Terrible. However, Far Away Moses and Count Jasper had once been friends, and retain respect for each other. As Far Away Moses explains to Dick, theirs is a clash of ideas, not personalities. - Hi there and thanks for writing! To be included in the encyclopedia a person should meet the notability guidelines. Essentially they should have been non-trivially mentioned in multiple, third-party reliable sources. When an article is written, you should include citations to those sources using footnotes so as to verify the information presented. Following these steps will greatly reduce the likelihood of an article being deleted. Hope this helps you out some and happy editing! —Elipongo (Talk contribs) 16:47, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
