Son Goku (孫 悟空 Son Gokū?, meaning "Sato Sky") known only as Goku in most English-language adaptations, is the lead persona and later superhero featured in the Dragon Ball metaseries and media franchise created by Akira Toriyama. Initially, he is satirized to some measure on Sun Wukong, an influential figure from the Chinese tale Journey to the West. As the Dragon Ball storyline advanced, Goku's similarity toward this character discontinued.
Goku is a martial artist who has saved the Earth multiple times by defeating enemies that sought to take over the world, including Earth's most evil army, a diabolical would-be-world-conqueror, and an unceasing eternal demon. At the start of the second phase of Dragon Ball, it is discovered that Goku is an alien from another planet. Originally sent to Earth to destroy all of its inhabitants, Goku lost every recollection of his past in a fatal head injury that changed him from an uncouthed being to a pure-hearted fighter.
