Dr William Ames (1576–1633)

Its not easy to determine copyright for this image.

It was presumably painted in Holland around the same time the subject died in 1633, although the artist isn't known, and the style is more of an English style.

This print of an uncredited photograph that was published in: Keith L. Sprunger, The Learned Doctor William Ames (1972) p. 84b, and taken from the original painting that was (is?) in the Gemeentemuseum Coopmanshûs, Franeker [if Franeker still exists]. Also, a "courtesy" was granted to the author of the book for its usage by the Provinciale Bibliotheek van Friesland, if THEY still exist (unable to determine with the assistance of professional librarians at the largest library on the West Coast of America, the Los Angeles Public Library).

The book was published by the University of Illinois Press, with ISBN 0-252-00233-4.

Fair usage is claimed here since the uploader intends that this image only be used for educational purposes and does not intend for it to be used by third parties for money making purposes.

There is also a slight, horizontal white stripe across the face of the portrait to further discourage this sort of copying and subsequent resale.
