Drax Hall Estate

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Drax Hall Estate was a sugar plantation of Saint George in central Barbados in the Caribbean. It is the site where the first sugar cane was cultivated in 1642 and is still only one of two Jacobean houses remaining in Barbados. The estate has belonged to the Drax family since it was built in the early 1640s by James Drax and his brother, William. The estate is still a sugar plantation but the house is not open to the public, its grounds spanning much of the eastern landscape of Saint George.
