[edit] History

The word draumir does not exist in any official language, but it bears resemblance to the Icelandic draumur, meaning dreams.

Draumir's first live show took place at Cafe Mir in Oslo, 2002.

The band's manager, Bjørn Holbæk-Hanssen, sent a demo tape to the American producer Chris Eckman, and in 2004 the band set off for Ljubljana to record their self-financed debut album – to be produced by Eckman. The album was released on the band's own label in 2005 and received great reviews. It was nominated for Spellemannsprisen (Norwegian Grammy Awards) for Best New Band of the Year.

In February 2006 Draumir played at the by:Larm-festival in Tromsø. Again the band was well-received, and the concert led to a record contract with Universal Music Norway. During the following months Draumir's second album, The Island, was composed, and then recorded in September/October 2006.

The Island was released on March 26, 2007.
