Dragonwings

Dragonwings is an award winning children's novel written by Laurence Yep. The book won the IRA Children's Book Award and two Newbery Honor Awards.
Based on the author's life, it explores the experiences of a young boy growing up between two cultures. The book is used as educational material and has been made into a play. The book is about a boy named Moon Shadow who travels to America in the early 20th century to meet his father,Windrider, who is a very good kite maker. They invest in their dream of creating an improved aeroplane,named Dragonwings, with the help of the Wright Brothers. Based on the immigration of the Chinese, the hardships and joys of the time, and the San Francisco earthquake, this story is both poignant and unusual.
