TV.com summary

Dragon Booster is a Canadian animated series first broadcast in 2004. It follows the story of young Artha Penn, a stable boy who rides Beaucephalis (or "Beau" for short), the dragon of legend. He becomes a Dragon Booster, a hero to protect the world from impending Dragon-Human war, and to unite humans and dragons for all time.

Many of the characters are named after characters from the tales of King Arthur. Artha Penn being a play on Arthur Pendragon. Moordryd on Mordred Le Fey (Arthur's illegitimate son), Lance Penn on Lancelot.

This series is produced in cel shaded CGI. As the series has not made any new episodes with no future plans to (due to cancellation), there are many online petitions made by fans in hopes of scoring a continuance into Dragon Booster's second incarnation, Dragon Booster Academy.

[edit] History

The History of the show tells us that on the planet of Draconis there existed a breed of gold reptiles called dragons. These Dragons had star shaped marks on their foreheads and were known to all as the Star Dragons. Humans and Dragons lived side by side and together they built an almost atlantean world.

5000 years later humans and dragons spread across the planet and settled in places far off. To better adapt to the new challenges faced by them, the humans bred the pure star dragons into specialized sub-breeds: Black, Red, Green, Blue, Purple, Orange, Light Green, Light Blue, Turqouize, Brown, Grey and White.

Great Draconium Empires formed across the planet based on these Draconium Colors. They battled against each other and vyed for supremacy. At this time only one Pure Gold Draconium Dragon Line was left in the world.

[edit] Synopsis

Dragon Booster was planned with a five-year story arc (i.e., five seasons)[citation needed], but only three seasons have been produced and aired. Each "year" contains 13 half-hour episodes.

In the first season, Artha competes in street racing events with his dragon "Beau", and fights as the hero of legend, the "Dragon Booster" against Word Paynn's attempts to capture the legendary dragon. The second season continues this continuity, further developing the main characters and expanding the cast of side characters.

By the third season, the series adopts a new focus as an annual racing competition sponsored by the city's prestigious Dragon Racing Academy begins, with the prize being admittance into the Academy. Artha and Moordryd become fierce rivals fighting for the lead position, while a new antagonist called Armeggaddon mentors Moordryd from the sidelines.

  • All episodes have aired in Canada, U.S., Indonesia, South Africa, Malaysia, Britain, Denmark and Mauritius. The end of episode 39 has a logo for a continuation of the show in a new series called "Dragon Booster Academy", but the series has been completely canceled.[citation needed]

[edit] Cancellation

In an interview with Matt Hill (Artha Penn) on June 10, 2006 at the Otakuthon convention held in Concordia University, it was made apparent that Dragon Booster failed to pull together a large enough fan base and production has currently ceased on the series. He stated "We did not get the following 13 episodes". When asked why the series lost its bid for more episodes, Hill responded, "There weren't enough viewers."
