Dr David Hunter

Dr David Hunter is popular fiction character created by novelist Simon Beckett, and is the protagonist of his bestselling crime novels. Hunter debuted in 2006 in the novel The Chemistry of Death, this was followed in 2007 with Written in Bone. A third novel is planned for publication in 2008.
Dr Hunter is a widower having lost his wife and daughter in a car accident. He is by training a forensic anthropologist. He left his old life behind after the tragedy involving his wife and daughter to practice as a General practitioner in the Norfolk village of Manham. Events in Manham lead to Dr Hunter using his forensic skills again. Dr Hunter's partner is teacher called Jenny who he met in Manham.
Both novels share a common theme of murder in isolated communities and a retired/semi-retired character with a tragic past is usually involved in the plot.
