Dr. Louise Elaine "Lainey" Winters[1] is a fictional character on the popular ABC daytime drama, General Hospital, as portrayed by Kent Masters King since April 1, 2005 and on spin-off General Hospital: Night Shift as of July 2007.
[edit] Background
Within the series, Lainey Winters is a resident Psychiatrist at General Hospital. From the character's first appearance to early 2006, she was in a relationship with Justus Ward, who was murdered in 2006.
Her father, Roger Winters, suffers from Alzheimer's Disease.
During the kidnapping storyline of Jake Spencer, Lainey assisted the PCPD. She suspected, as others did, that Elizabeth Spencer may be suffering from post-partum depression and may have blocked out doing something to Jake. In reality, Jake had been kidnapped by Maureen Harper, a woman who had lost her baby during a fire. Elizabeth & Lainey's friendship was strained, but they have since then gotten past the ordeal, and are now friends once again.
Lainey has also been on a date with Stan Johnson, Epiphany's son.
On the September 20, 2007 episode of General Hospital: Night Shift, Lainey's dad passed away. Lainey's patient, Cody Paul, disconnected his life support system. On October 5th, Lainey went to see Cody in PCPD lockup. She suggested that he change his plea to not guilty and shift the blame to Jolene Crowell, a student nurse that is responsible for a rash of accidents and patient deaths at GH.
