Dr. Busch-Memorial

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Dr. Busch-Memorial is a Group 3 flat horse race in Germany for three-year-old thoroughbreds. It is run over a distance of 1,700 metres (1 mile 99 yards) at Krefeld Racecourse, Krefeld in April.

It was originally run at Hoppegarten as the Preis von Dahlwitz, moving to the present venue in 1950 as the Paul Döring-Rennen. The distance at this time was 1,650 metres, increasing to 1,700 metres in 1968. The only variations since then have been when it was run at Cologne (1994) and Hoppegarten (1997) over 1,600 metres, and when it was contested over 1,400 metres in 1998.

The race is presently named in memory of Max Busch, a former president of Krefeld Racecourse. It has also been known by various sponsored titles, including the Preis der UNESCO and the Preis des Gestüts Wiesenhof. The race was first promoted to Group 3 level in 1994, dropping to Listed class in 1998 and regaining Group 3 status in 2000.
