Dr. B. C. Roy Engineering College (BCREC) is located in the very pulsating heart of Durgapur, one of the most kinetic industrial cities in the country, bounced back to the global map in recent times. Durgapur, a city that nurtures Durgapur Steel Plant & Alloy Steel Plant of SAIL, a number of industries and research establishments, is considered among those planned cities that can boast of well designed urban comfort, all-round civic and social amenities with surprisingly low pollution impacts. The very location of the institute itself, being in proximity to vast knowledge application areas, guarantees the fundamentals of quality technical and professional education.

The campus is open, green, calm, serene, and a great place to enjoy learning no matter how tough and exhaustive the curricula may be. Twelve acres of developed land, 400,000 square feet (37,000 m²) of built up space, separate buildings for classrooms, work-shops, labs, library, hostels, canteens, well planned landscapes with lawns, gardens, play fields, recreation centres for cultural activities, internet facility, in-campus students utility & communication points can all be found. The Engineering College has received the approval from the Department of Higher Education, Government of West Bengal as a center of higher education the approval from All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Govt of India. It is affiliated to the West Bengal University of Technology.

The Institute has entered into an agreement with Director of Satellite Communications Programmes Office, Government of India under the aegis of Indian Space Research Organization to participate in the interactive educational programmes at which distinguished academicians and scientists from the United States and India shall take part in the deliverance of structured knowledge. The Institute is one of the 50 Colleges, nation-wide, that has been selected by the Govt of India, to participate alongside eminent centre like the IIT/ITSc, Bangalore and the installation of network link by the Department of Science and Technology has been established. The Central Library, named after the renowned physicist Dr. Meghnad Saha, is a core facility of the College and offers over 18,000 books, journals and periodicals for students and faculty to benefit from. This central library is a modern three-storied building centrally air-conditioned, with spacious Reading Rooms and takes pride in setting up a Computerized study centre for 70 students with DELNET and Internet connectivity, at any single point of time.

AICTE-NBA certification is the hall-mark of superior - quality -technical-education in the country and is considered as a quality bench-mark in India and abroad. [The College is one of the fifty Colleges, nation-wide, to be selected in the "Indo-US Edusat" programme and stands out as the only College in the State to be considered by the Department of Science and Technology and ISRO to partner in the EDUSAT programme.

BCREC being open to both residents and day-scholars separate halls of residence equipped with functional furniture and amenities for male and lady students located within the Campus for better security and safety of students are available. Each hostel offers a full complement of facilities boarding and lodging, common room, outdoor and indoor recreation, medical services, guest room for guardians etc.

Student life at BCREC is designed to be interdisciplinary and often carries over into the life of the community. Proximity enables students from different disciplines to maintain a society of conviviality and mutual interest, which extends to th-e faculty. All students get to know each other socially, with intellectual exchange as the basis of campus life. There are many occasions for sharing meals - at the College Canteen, participation in a calendar of cultural, entertainment and recreational programmes and events including sporting activities, and attending specialty lectures and symposia etc. Incoming call receiving facility in each room in the Boys Hostel.

Talk by eminent personalities from diverse fields, seminars and group discussions are arranged to expose students and teachers to newer and advanced ideas. Developmental programmes like workshops, quiz contests, exhibitions, excursions, visit to industries and programmes to enhance social, spiritual and environmental awareness of students are under phased implementation.
- Student-participants from various Engineering Disciplenes of the College attended a workshop on entrepreneurship in IT sectors and Computer Hardware Technology at National Institute of Technology.
- Guest Speaker from "Infosys" delivered a presentation on "Campus Connect" initiatives.
- HCL Infosystems deliberated on Training & Placement Initiatives.
- Students on 04.04.2006 in the campus organized a Blood donation Camp with assistance from sub-divisional Govt. Hospital, Durgapur.
- Adien bid farewell to students organised by the 3rd Year Students.
- Moksha - Freshers welcome to the New Joinees organised by the 2nd year students.
- Zeal The Cultural fest organised by the students on March organised by the 3rd Year Students.
- Horizon the state level tech fest just before Zeal organised by the 4th Year Students.
- Annual Sports meet at the College Sports Campus .
- Prof. (Dr.) Atal Chowdhury of theDeptt. of Computer Science Engineering, Jadavpur University conducted a Seminar on "Fractels", and Prof. (Dr.) Bhadra Chowdhury, Principal of the College of ceramic Technology delivered a lecture on "Mobile Computing Technology".

The efficacy of an Institute of higher education is gauged by the number of students absorbed by the industry and Training and placement function is a main thrust area of BCREC. Training and Placement activities require all-out efforts that often are fierce and competitive in the present scenario. Placement of students is sometimes beset with problems of industrial climate and economic upswings /downturns at the macro level. Yet, nothing is left to chance. BCREC has been fortunate to garner support from ivy-league companies in the country in matters of placement.
Accenture, Honeywell,Tata Consultancy Services, Infosys, Satyam, L&T Infotech, Skytech, Alstom, HCL, Wipro, Spectramind, CMC, IBM, Cognizant, Sony Ericsson, DSL Software, Sasken - are just a few from the long list of regular, early adopters. Placement records for 2004, 2005 and 2006 have been steadily showing upward trends.
