What about the advantage that download managers are able to download faster (usually) than web browsers, or at least maintain a consistant download speed (and at the max bandwidth of your connection), through the use of multiple connections to the server and segmenting the file? (Theboywonder 08:23, 24 October 2005 (UTC))

Well, my experience has been that a few servers detect that and cut you off totally. It pays to watch each new connection to be sure it's not going to get choked, before you move on to other business.

To me, the really important benefit is resumable downloads. Without that, it doesn't matter how fast your connection is if you can't complete the task!
