Downtown Music Publishing is an independent music publishing company formed in January 2007 with offices in New York and Los Angeles. Headed by president Justin Kalifowitz, the company is the publishing company for Downtown Records, home to artists including Gnarls Barkley, Justice, and Mos Def. In addition to publishing much of the Downtown writer/artist roster, including Cold War Kids, Mos Def, Santogold, Spank Rock, Carla Bruni and Amanda Blank, the company owns or controls over 1,000 titles recorded by artists including Aretha Franklin, Mary J. Blige, 50 Cent, Hannah Montana's Miley Cyrus and the cast of High School Musical 2.[1]
Downtown Music Publishing is also the exclusive publishing administrator for RCRD LBL, an online singles label in a blog format founded by Downtown Records and Peter Rojas.
