[edit] 2006 festival
In 2006, Download Festival Ireland hosted a 2-day event in Dublin at the RDS showgrounds. This event was co-ordinated by Aiken Promotions and was headlined by rock acts Guns N' Roses and Metallica. The event, although smaller than its Donington Festival counter-part, attracted an estimated 70,000 people for the two concerts at the 50,000 capacity RDS Showgrounds. It was not staged in Dublin in 2007.
[edit] Line-up
The event played host to 15 bands and had two stages, the Main Stage (located in the main pitch) and Stage Two (a large all-weather tent located outside of the pitch). Having only two stages and being held inside the city limited the event somewhat; Restrictions regarding start and end times of the concert meant that bands would only appear from 3pm - 10pm, also with only two stages, coupled with the limited timeframe, 15 bands was a near maximum billing for the event.

[edit] Controversy
There was some controversy on day two of the festival after Main Stage act KoRn pulled out of the event completely. Jonathan Davis, lead singer of Korn, was hospitalised shortly before their appearance at Donington. The led to Korn playing a shortened set at Donnington with the help of singers from various other bands, but unfortunately no adequate replacements were available for the Dublin show. Alice in Chains, originally billed to appear on Stage Two, were upgraded to the Main Stage.
