[edit] Introduction
Downham Market High School is a school in Downham Market in Norfolk in England.
The school is a large secondary school in the Fenland town of Downham Market and is one of the largest schools in the county. The School has been awarded specialist Technology College status by the specialist schools trust. There are approximately 1,700 pupils on site in school years 7 -11 ranging from age 11-16. The main Bexwell site is on Bexwell Road and Sixth Form students are based at the Ryston Site, which is a 5 minute walk from the Bexwell Site.
The headteacher is Mr Ian Bloom.

The oldest buildings on site date to the mid 1950s and were part of the former Downham Secondary Modern School. Newer buildings have been built since, in recent years these have included the Technology (T Block) which includes three ICT suites, the Arts block (A Block) which houses the history department as well as drama and music studios and the English Block [E Block] which opened in 2005.

[edit] Drama Department
The Drama Department is one of the most active departments, it offers many extra curicular activities for students and produces a variety of productions throughout the year, including a large musical alongside the music department in February. This year's productions are going to be To Kill a Mockingbird and in February, the musical extravaganza Bugsy Malone. In recent years they have also performed Andrew Lloyd Webber Classic Jesus Christ Superstar, Toad of Toad Hall, Grease and Joseph. Smaller productions have included Terry Pratchett's Wyrd Sisters and Sheridan's School for Scandal
Sixth Sense Theatre Company is part of the drama department in the school and teaches senior students the art of touring a production. Every summer the company tours a production, in recent years they have performed in Scotland, The Channel Islands and Australia.

The music department runs several orchestras and arranges instrument tuition for students. The department stages a number of concerts throughout the year including the annual Christmas Concert and Recital Concerts.

The school has a good reputation for sports, and teams regularly compete with other schools and in championships. Sports facilities on site include football and hockey pitches, tennis courts,basketball courts, cricket nets and a leisure centre - (run by the Borough Council) which holds a sports hall, gym, and swimming pool.
