Down to the Sea in Ships is a Robert Wegmann album. It was released in 1989 as the follow-up to Poisoned Paradise. Down to the Sea in Ships was a breakthrough release for Wegmann, establishing him as a competent singer/songwriter in his own right.
Down to the Sea in Ships is a curious pastiche of many influences, most notably The Beatles, The Beach Boys and, oddly enough, XTC. Ships charted quite well in the American college and independent radio markets and began to find its way into the European and Japanese markets. Unfortunately Wegmann has not equalled or surpassed the success of Down to the Sea in Ships in subsequent releases.
