[edit] Plot
Marshall finally tires of Ted's never-ending presence and his invasion on the married couple's personal space, so he decides to buy a new apartment with Lily. In a neighborhood called Dowisetrepla, Marshall falls in love with the first apartment that he and Lily visit. Lily feels guilty because of the huge credit card bill she hides from Marshall and because she knows they can't afford the apartment. Robin urges Lily to tell Marshall about the debt.
The next day, Lily and Marshall go to the mortgage broker and apply for a mortgage, where Marshall finds out about Lily's debt. Later, Ted, Barney, and Robin go home, where they follow the clues and discover that Lily and Marshall were having a fight. Lily and Marshall return, exclaiming that they bought the apartment. The next day, Lily and Marshall take a taxi to their new home, where they find out what "Dowisetrepla" means.
Meanwhile, Barney hooks up with a woman, Meg, and takes the girl to the apartment in Dowisetrepla so he can sneak out while she is in the shower.
[edit] Trivia
- Dowisetrepla plays on New York City's tendency to shorten neighborhood names. It is pronounced "doe" (as in a female deer), "wis" (as in "whisk"), "se" (as in the name "Seth"), "tree," "pla" (as in "plant"). As revealed at the end of the episode Dowisetrepla is short for "downwind of the sewage treatment plant."
- While talking to Lily in the apartment's kitchen, Robin states that Mount Waddington is the tallest mountain in Canada. This is, in fact, false. The tallest mountain in Canada is Mount Logan; Mount Waddington is the highest peak in the Coast Mountains.
- Ted says that he thought the area of Dowisewtrepla was water. This is likely to be the case as the sewage treatment plants in New York tend to be built with a major river or the ocean to the East in order to avoid the smell coming across the rest of the city, e.g. Red Hook, Oakwood Beach
