Dow AgroSciences
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Dow AgroSciences LLC is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Dow Chemical Company specializing in not only agricultural chemicals such as pesticides, but also seeds and biotechnology solutions. The company is based in Indianapolis, Indiana, in the United States. On 31st January, 2006, Dow AgroSciences announced that it had received regulatory approval for the world's first plant-cell-produced vaccine against Newcastle disease virus from USDA Center for Veterinary Biologics[1].
Dow AgroSciences is also supplying various American fast-food restaurants, including Taco Bell, with Natreon, its canola based oil. The oil, said to be twice as healthy as olive oil with twice as much omega-3 and half as many saturated fats, is healthier than most, if not all, of the oils currently used in the preparation of food [1].
Ivor Watkins Dow, the predecessor in New Zealand of Dow AgroSciences, was embroiled in a controversy over the exposure of residents near the plant to dioxins[2]
