Talk:Douglas Municipal Airport (Arizona)

Is this the same as Douglas-Bisbee International Airport? Gene Nygaard 12:21, 13 April 2006 (UTC)
No, they are two separate airports. Douglas-Bisbee International is an old WWII Army Air Force field that was converted to civilian use located northwest of Douglas. Douglas Municipal is located on the east side of town and right on the border. I visited this airport in 1994 when there was an annular eclipse of the sun visible in Douglas. I made a comment on the border fence, easily visible from the FBO, to one of the guys working there. He told me that there used to be a gate on it so that pilots in México could have their planes parked on the south side of the fence. They'd taxi the plane through the gate to takeoff and depart to the south. Sounded like a good idea to me with some sensible security arrangements. Unfortunately political realities eventually caused this to be permanently closed. Skywayman 19:41, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
